Why does my old Janome sewing machine suddenly not sew a straight stitch anymore, but keeps throwing a zig zag every so often, after years of behaving ok?

Question edited for clarity, the name 'Jerome' to 'Janome'. Question moved to maker category. If it is a manual machine, something has come loose. If it electronic, you may be able to reset the control board. They need servicing every 18 months to 2 years irrespective of how often you use them. You are the only person to have this error. https://www.google.com/search?q=janome+sewing+machine+adds+a+zig+zag+to+straight+stitches ..

Janome Mystyle 22 skips stitches on the buttonhole function

If your Janome Mystyle 22 sewing machine is skipping stitches specifically when using the buttonhole function, there could be a few possible causes for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try: 1. Needle: You mentioned that you have already changed the needle, but it's worth double-checking that you are using the correct needle type and size for the fabric you are working with. Ensure that the needle is inserted correctly and tightened securely. 2. Thread tension: Improper thread tension can cause skipped stitches. Make sure the upper thread and bobbin thread are properly threaded and that the tension settings are adjusted correctly for the fabric you are using. You may need to experiment with different tension settings to achieve the best results. 3. Buttonhole foot: Check that the buttonhole foot is attached securely and positioned correctly. Ensure that it is clean and free from any lint or debris that may be affecting its performance. 4. Feed dogs: The feed dogs underneath the fabric may not be gripping the fabric properly, especially when working with lighter fabrics. Ensure that the feed dogs are clean and free from any obstructions. You can try using a fabric stabilizer or placing tissue paper under the fabric to provide more traction for the feed dogs. 5. Lubrication: While you mentioned that the machine was recently serviced, it's possible that the buttonhole mechanism could benefit from some additional lubrication. Consult the user manual or contact Janome's customer support to inquire about lubrication points and recommended lubricants for your specific model. 6. Stitch length and speed: Adjusting the stitch length and sewing speed can sometimes help improve buttonhole stitching. Experiment with different stitch length settings to see if it makes a difference in stitch quality. If you have tried all these steps and the issue persists, it may be best to consult a professional technician or reach out to Janome's customer support for further assistance. They will be able to provide specific guidance and recommendations based on your sewing machine model.

I have a Memory Craft 8000. The computer screen

Try to recalibrate the machine.

With the machine off Hold down the three buttons that are on the front of the machine(start/stop.reverse and auto lock). While the buttons are depressed turn the machine on. A box with the sign + will come up on the screen under it you will see another + that is the one you touch. Then several more + come up.
Just touch each one as they appear. Then the message test complete will come up. Turn off machine and wait at least 5 seconds. Then you can turn the machine back on and hopefully fixes your problem. It checks for errors and fixes them. If you need further help, reach me via phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/elixirjose_00375ea24bd8141b

The thread cutter on my janome 7700 is stuck and clacking, then gives me an #4 error and locks up the machine can I fix it?

I have the 8200. It’s because of fluff/thread caught in the cogs that drive the thread cutter. If you slide off your accessory tray, take off your needle plate and from the rear of free arm section remove the 2 screws there (see photo) The plastic top cover will I click and lift/slide off (gently). If you look from the end under the metal plate you can see 2 plastic cogs (wish I’d taken a photo) - the smaller black one will be jammed with fluff or thread. I turned if gently with my screw driver and brushed and scrubbed with a pipe cleaner every time I turned it. Lots of fluff came out. Plugged it in and turned it on .. it worked as normal. Good luck.

I have a Janome 805, when I try to sew batting it comes up lo and wont sew

If your Janome 805 sewing machine is having trouble sewing through batting, there are a few things you can try:
  1. Use the right needle: Make sure you are using a needle that is appropriate for the thickness of the batting you are using. A needle that is too small or too dull may struggle to penetrate the batting layers.
  2. Adjust the tension: Experiment with adjusting the tension on your sewing machine. If the tension is too tight, it can cause the fabric and batting to pucker, while if it's too loose, the stitching may come out uneven. Refer to your sewing machine manual for instructions on how to adjust the tension.
  3. Use the right stitch length: Adjust the stitch length to a longer setting, which can help the needle to penetrate the batting more easily.
  4. Try using a walking foot: A walking foot can help feed the batting evenly through the machine, which may help prevent bunching and puckering.
  5. Use a sharp blade to trim the batting: Before sewing, make sure the edges of the batting are clean and even. Use a sharp blade to trim any frayed or uneven edges.
If none of these tips help, it's possible that there may be an issue with your sewing machine that requires a professional repair.

Can thread tension be manually adjusted on janome 11000 special edition

Yes, the upper thread tension on the Jan ome MC 11000 SE can be manually adjusted. To do so, start by loosening the tension dial on the back of the machine until the tension is light enough. Then slowly turn the tension dial back up until you reach the desired tension.

I have Janome XR-23 which worked fine last time I used it. Now it wont pull the material through the foot. I have cleaned the bobbin case and oiled, The dog feed teeth go up and down freely.

If you have already cleaned and oiled the bobbin case and the feed teeth are going up and down freely, the next thing to check is the presser foot. Make sure it is properly attached and the screw holding it in place is tightened. Also, check that the pressure on the presser foot is set correctly for the thickness of the fabric you are sewing. If the pressure is too low, the fabric may not feed through properly. If the presser foot is properly attached and the pressure is set correctly, you can also check the tension on the upper thread. Make sure it is threaded correctly through the machine and the tension is set to the appropriate level for the fabric you are sewing. If none of these solutions work, there may be an issue with the machine's timing or the feed mechanism itself. In this case, it may be best to take the machine to a professional for servicing.

Why won't fix for 'Lo' showing in screen work?

For some reason, your machine thinks that there is something in the way, and by "lo", I'm guessing it is in the bobbin assembly. Try taking out the bobbin and the bobbin case, and see if there is anything that looks bent or scratched or isn't moving correctly. Your machine is sensing something and locking up to prevent further damage. You might want to also use some canned air to blow out any fuzz or loose threads underneath. Some of the newer computerized machines can be really particular, and the slightest bit of fuzz can throw it out of whack.

I have a JL250 manufactured by Janome. the LCD display is stuck on bobbin and does not change when I change the stitch, so it's a bit trial and error. Can this be fixed or is it an expensive repair?

Hm, since it involves the LCD screen, it could be a computer component. Could be expensive, but the only way to know is to contact service.

My thread keeps breaking on my janome 1600p-dbx sewing machine. I have changed my needle, just had it serviced but i can only free motion quilt about 6" before the thread breaks. What can I do?

  1. Check the thread tension: Make sure the upper thread tension is set correctly for the type of fabric and thread you are using. If the tension is too tight, it can cause the thread to break.
  2. Check the thread path: Make sure the thread is correctly threaded through the machine and there are no tangles or knots in the thread path.
  3. Check the bobbin tension: Make sure the bobbin tension is set correctly. If the bobbin tension is too tight or too loose, it can cause thread breakage.
  4. Use the correct needle: Make sure you are using the correct size and type of needle for the fabric and thread you are using. Using a damaged or bent needle can also cause thread breakage.
  5. Slow down your stitching speed: If you are stitching too quickly, it can cause the thread to break. Try reducing your stitching speed to see if this helps.
  6. Use high-quality thread: Make sure you are using high-quality thread that is suitable for your project. Poor-quality thread can be more prone to breakage.

I have a Janome 1600P DBX sewing machine. I just had it serviced, I changed the needle but the top thread keeps shredding and breaking at the throat plate. What else can I do?

  1. Check the thread: Make sure you are using a good quality thread that is appropriate for the type of fabric you are sewing. Poor quality thread or thread that is not suitable for the fabric can cause shredding and breaking.
  2. Check the needle: Make sure you are using the correct size and type of needle for the fabric you are sewing. A bent or damaged needle can also cause thread shredding and breaking.
  3. Check the tension: Check the upper thread tension to make sure it is set correctly for the type of fabric you are sewing. If the tension is too tight, it can cause the thread to shred or break.
  4. Check the threading: Make sure the upper thread is threaded correctly and that there are no tangles or knots in the thread path.
  5. Check the presser foot: Make sure the presser foot is properly installed and that the fabric is being held firmly in place while you sew.
  6. Check the machine settings: Double-check that the machine is set to the correct stitch length, stitch width, and other settings for the type of fabric you are sewing.
If you have tried these steps and are still experiencing issues, you may want to consult with the technician who serviced your machine
