Cartridges usually do not damage paper. you may have something out of place inside printer. Take a flashlight and shine inside the printer to see if you see paper stuck somewhere.

Clean the print head for an HP F380

If the cartridges are new, make sure you removed the, (sometimes clear), tape that the manufacturer places over the shinny metallic ink distribution slots, (shinny objects on the underside of the cartridges, like the previous answers have described). Otherwise, make sure the cartridges are the correct model for your printer, and I use a dab of alcohol on my q-tips to clean off old dried ink from the contacts. The contacts are very obvious once the cartridges are removed. Make sure to unplug the printer once you have removed the cartridges to access the contacts, before cleaning. And be gentle with the contacts, rub gently. And clean the cartridge contacts and ink dispensing slots as well, and gently as well. As previously mentioned, you should get ink on the q-tip when cleaning the ink distribution slots. Three colors, yellow blue and red from the color cartridge and black from the black cartridge. So clean the contacts first, then do the ink dispensers last to avoid adding ink to the contacts with a ink soggy q-tip. Good luck and be gentle.

Once you find the printer, right click on it, go into printing preferences and you should find a tab in there that will all you to disable color. If you want to be able to print in both and black will not print, make sure your black ink cartridge is not empty or that it is properly installed.

    Hp deskjet 6940 paper jam

This past Saturday we just had a similiar problem on our church HP printer. Different number than yours, but most likely the same solution. It jammed when the last person used it, so they removed the crinkled paper. Or so they thought - there was a piece maybe 1-1/2" triangular shape stuck on top. I liked to never found it, I looked even with a flashlight 4 times before I caught just a hint of white way up there. If that is not it, there could be a door you have not opened. Most of them open top, back, front. Ours also opens on the side. The back opens in two places. Occasionally there can be a piece of paper you can only see from one door.
