To anyone having issues with the HP Compaq DC7900 restarting when Shutdown is selected, what I found that resolved my issue had nothing to do with Registry Editing, Disabling Fast Startup, Wake from Network devices. I configured the Hardware devices under the Power Management Option in the BIOS to disable this function. My problem is over and the PC even shuts down quickly.

ALL PC like that , a desktop makes noise, all do even 10 new in a box and deployed day1 new all make noise!!!! those are called FANS that keep the chips (etc) from not overheating. if it is more loud from day1 new say that and read. this. fans and heat sinks are filthy with lint as most DC7900 are now. even 1 year old it can pack up with lint badly if the fan hunts RPM that means it is having trouble regulating speed and that again is dirt. the PC needs service, we all call this cleaning he PC. a dirt./lint things., not CCleaner the app. if you dis-;ike all noises, on a new PC buy a noise free PC and they are not cheap,. or get notepad fan free. desktops are very fast and with fast comes heat. the fasting gaming PCs are desktops and the fans so scream super fast with the fastest games, fast means heat and the fans end heat-sinks job is to ex-spell it out of the PC casing where it belongs. and needs cleaning every year on most. we blow it out with 30PSI shop air or with CAN-O-air sold at walmart.

click start control panel sounds and audio,volume you can adjust the volume or advanced,speakers select appropriate speakers or audio you will find 3 drop down lists make sure you have selected the right speakers hope it helps

Hyjacker, Ransford decker ask 6 years later. ahhh , old BEEPs codes so old that HP even forgets them over 10 years old./ yours is now 13 years old first off is the Motherboard RTC coin cell dead, as all are this old? replace it first. a wise choice. that. on some HP code 8 is coin cell dead. did you count flashes wrong? the count matters. big time.... on AMI BIOS code 8 means Display memory error (system video adapter) later AMI BIOS code 8 means. ROM Checksum Error ROM checksum value does not match the value encoded in BIOS. this means COIN cell bad again. i see no code 9,s in my huge private lists of bios codes for 20 years. ok , reading all manuals, on this one PC i find this. "System not fetching code" now there is classic geek code, wow. my guess it means CMOS ram is corrputed. again the coin cell is bad. table.(fixha wrecked it, sux, no?)

why run dead XP?, is the PC ONLINE? or off/? The USB plug and play is failing, you do know MS killed dead Plug and Play for XP 4 years ago right? the top failure of any pc running XP would be USB devices. USB devices are extensive in scope, endless types and top of the list are mice, and keyboards.(vast types exist)) The PnP engine scans the local driver cache first. if no mouse (example 1) is found to match your unstated mouse then it must do what? go on line, to MS.com and MS pulled the plug..... just like they did on w95 w98 ME W2000 and vista. and XP 4+ years ago ! time to upgrade, for sure. a counter argument would be that the virus magnet XP is infected. as ALL ARE NOW and worse every day forward!! for eternity

win xp is so far out of date that the drivers in that operating system are not being updated by Microsoft Any other glitches are also not being fixed win 7 is also no longer being supported by Microsoft and many of the drivers in it are starting to show faults Suggest that you consider win 10 as Microsoft have already given a time for win 8 and vista as to when support for them will also stop

(marginal for any fast new Video cards) simple answers:

1. only you memory seller can match up correct memory types DDR-667 or faster. like Kingston, as them !!!
2. 4GB max mem.
3. lacking correct PSU only 75watt Video cards work or less.
4. with correct PSU the sky's the limit,!!! on power.

why upgrade such and old 12 year old system. are you dreaming of running fast $60 games? it wont work. it's too old. tell why you need the video card first?. usage matters first.

so what is the 1st drive, and is it IDE or SATA. or is one a why are you using XP is it 32bit or 64? ill answer for 32.. its a dead OS,totally dead,and virus magnet and the MS PnP severs are shut down. XP also MUST have the SP3 installed or the THING cant find any modern, SATA chips and many other devices. im looking at your MOBO now, it has 4 sata jacks 1 floppy and 1 IDE jack let me guess this is what Drive one, IDE (pata) is plugged in , then you add a new sata drive to the old sata ports and XP pukesssss, as all XP does (cept mine) SSDD. Same stuff different day, so you can either use w7 like all savvy folks do or find the driver missing that MS cant find, XP is dead. but wait XP needs a Floppy drive to load the correct driver. but if XP is running now, we dont need that only on XP installs. ive no idea on what sata chip is there, in our shop we scan it to find that and HP does not tell this.
