The pump turns on runs for 30 sec. the stops. I

Pump will stop automatically if it run dry, so you need to check it.
It seems that most probably the float switch is faulty and because of that faulty component the pump stops automatically after 30 sec.
I suggest you to replace that switch and the pump will work again.

Hope this will help you. Good Luck.

When the pump is running

Hi,
The bearing seal between the pump and the motor has gone bad...they are replaceable but it is a time consuming job that probably will not work for you the first time...you also will probably destroy the impeller when changing the seal...

Find a pro that has done this before and have them change the seal for you...

Frequent starting and stopping can be an indication of a leaky suction inlet pipe. Check the connections around the inlet for any signs of water leakage and repair as necessary.

My grundfos mq3-35b is used

No this is not a problem at all. What you are probably remembering is the pressure when the supply was getting low. When it has a lower supply it will not be able to pump as much pressure. With a higher supply, it will pump more pressure. But this is perfectly ok.

If there is a surge tank in the system this is not working.
Try raising the cut-out pressure. It sounds like the pump is reaching high pressure even when you are using water.

Sounds like it may be air in the system - there is a black plastic bleeder screw on the top of the pump - open it and let air escape, if any, then fill with water, close screw and start pump.

You would be better off with a brand that has better representation than Grundfos. Several of our commercial customers change to brands such as Armstrong or Bell & Gossett the first chance they get because Grudfos is less reliable and getting parts or service on them much harder.

I have a Grundfos MQ3

The only thing that would cause a problem like that is when the pump is no longer primed - the water has drained out of it and it runs on empty = overspeeds.
You need to replace the valves, they are leaking. Also make sure that the rain tank is clean, dirt and debris might block the valves.

It sounds as if the mechanical seal is leaking. it could be a defect or was the pump allowed to run dry. The mechanical seal relies on the water to keep it from overheating. You can ruin a seal in a very short time if it runs dry.
