Go to Garmin and download and install Garmin Express, Plug your GPS into your PC. The GPS should power on and Garmin Express should identify it and tell you of any updates. This would allow your to install new maps. You did not delete your internal memory, you deleted your internal maps. Moving the maps from internal to external memory cannot be done on your PC and have them work. This device is very old. it may still work and you may find parts on a website like e-bay but the streetpilot series is no longer able to get map updates. If you purchased lifetime updates back in the day you might give Garmin a call to see if they can offer any trade in value. I've heard good things about the support people there.

Unfortunately, Fixya is not associated with Garmin. We can only answer device questions and can't speak for the company. Unfortunately, the unit cannot be upgraded. Garmin provides both in and out of warranty repair service if the unit is having a problem. The 2720 sells for $49 on Amazon, so it probably is not worth your while to have fixed. The 2720 is known to have issues unfortunately, it is pretty lowly rated on Amazon.

Take the GPS out of your van to an area with a clear view of the sky. Power the unit on. If the unit is working correctly, then it will acquire the satellites. You can then put the unit back in your van. You may have to reposition the unit to keep the satellite lock. If the unit does not acquire satellites outside, then the unit is defective.

The GPS signals will not be affected by clouds, rain, fog, snow, etc. You probably need to relocate the position of the gps in your vehicle due to weak signal where it is now located.

It sounds like you have a battery that is going bad. The StreetPilot is one of the older Gamins, and have been known to need new batteries after a few years of use. I would advise upgrading to a newer GPS.

First get whichever USB cable that model requires if you are not tech savy take it to radio shack and tell them you need the cabnle to connect it to your computer. Go to Garmin.com and there will be a program you will have to download onto your computer. This program will have an auto detect mode that will detect your model number or you can manually type it in. If it has free updates then it will prompt you not to power off the Gamin or close the program and it will download the program. you may also have to have an SD memory card with at least 2 GB of open data space availible. IF it does not have free updates it will give you pricing, i boughtg the lifetime updates for my Garmin

I had a problem when I went to the Garmin site to update my 2820. After the update, the touch screen function didn't work--it would freeze and I'd have to reboot it. In contacting Garmin, even though this was a high-end GPS and was not inexpensive when it came out, they said they would no longer support it and they wouldn't offer any suggestions as to how or who to go to in order to return its functionality. It looks like what happened when they stopped their customer support that they combined the software from the 2820 with their Nuvi software and while that might work for the map, it deactivated the touch-screen and bluetooth function. My unit still does not work.
