The following link has some Gardena manuals, and resources:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-program-Gardena-C1060.html

Due to space constraints, we cannot write out the manual. Plus the manual has illustrations that are key to understanding your device.
Read the manual that applies to your specific product.
Then add a comment saying what part of manual is confusing and what you have done so far to get the water timer working.

If your manual does not show, add a comment with in-focus photo of timer that you posted on Flickr for possible identification and instructions.

If your water timer is not working, say what you have done so far, and maybe more information can be added. Broken water timers have low probability of functioning again. Gardena shows a parts link, but as of right now, I do not know who sells parts, and am actively seeking that information.

Folks can add a comment about parts and repairs they have verified and keep this thread current.

We set the timer and

Hi Karen,
Fixya promises a fix, but some things are broken and can't be fixed.
I suspect that is the case here.

Sounds like the water valve might be stuck open.
Or the battery contacts are bad, a wire is broken, the clock motor has worn out, the internal on-off switch has worn out, electrical short, a piece of plastic has broken, a rubber gasket is broken or twisted in the way, sediment or minerals have built up in the valve. Or a combination of factors above.
Leaving valve exposed to freezing temperatures will crack the plastic.
Clean the waterway with CLR calcium lime rust and see if problem is solved, but immersing valve in CLR solution will not be good for electrical components.

I have not read any internet post where somebody says they repaired a water timer after timer has gone bad. This is true for all brands. I am looking for that information, and actively seeking factual accounts.
Since many other people have problems with Gardena valves, add a comment and say what you did to fix problem so everybody finding this link can share your solution.

Open following link below for some Gardena resources, including link to parts.
I do not know what parts to suggest, nor do I believe part replacement will solve problem.
I can't find sellers of Gardena parts, and the Gardena contact-us page doesn't respond back as of right now, but things are continually changing and folks visiting this link can update the post with their solutions, and add links to sellers of parts that would be of value.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-program-Gardena-C1060.html

Generally speaking, except for some timers from Intermatic, Paragon and Tork, there are no replacement parts for timers.
I am not sure what manufacturer makes the timer mechanism for Gardena.

Gardena certainly has a glossy site, but I have been unsuccessful trying to contact the company.

Their products come with warranty and they show parts, but no hint where you can buy parts.

If frost crack the device, then it means the whole device was pushed out of shape until something broke. Frankly, I would not spend money trying to fix a cracked piece of plastic.

My Gardena T 1030 D

1) I might have that manual in English:
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Gardena-T1030.pdf
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Gardena-T1030-MANUAL.pdf

2) If manual above doesn't work, I also used Google translate to translate Gardena manual; from Italian and German if I recall:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-program-Gardena-C1060.html

You can enter whole sentences into google translate, and make sense of 70-80%.
I sometimes answer questions in Spanish at fixya using the translator. So we're not helpless any more.

I do not know how to fix your plastic timer valve, or if parts would actually repair the thing.
Maybe glue except I don't know a plastic glue that holds on outside of device under water pressure.
Plus I cannot see where it is leaking, and there is no description that tells me if valve was left outside and cracked with freezing water, or if the valve is 10 years old, or if exposed to hard water deposits or minerals in the water, or particulate has scratched moving parts, or high water pressure, or if wd-40 spray lubricant dissolved the o-ring, or if the valve cracked from an impact, or if exposure to sun/heat has made the plastic brittle.

From fixya standpoint, gardena is the most problematic watering device.

Just bought 2 c 1060 plus, put a new battery in

There's not a lot expert can do when a timer is not functioning because we can't see it or mess with the thing. If you lived next door, I'd be glad to try the following things:
You have the timer and the manual, and can look and see if plastic is covering battery terminals, and see if there is grease or impediment on terminals, or if battery is inserted correct direction and brass contacts touch battery, and check that battery is good, and read manual to see if there is on-off switch.

This timer works on battery, not on electric power. So if display doesn't show with battery installation, the timer simply will not work.
Some of these timers have a solar collector, and I don't know how that factors into the battery operation. It could be battery and solar have a selector switch for either-or.

Open following link for some Gardena resources, including manual and link to gardena site.
The manual might have instructions for on-off switch, or some hint.

I am looking for a battery water timer that does

Google search: 'battery operated timer' and 'battery operated hose end'

Smarthome shows the Orbit: and has manual:
http://www.smarthome.com/31035/Orbit-57860-Battery-Operated-Sprinkler-Timer-with-Inline-Valve/p.aspx

The manual says 'turn down water pressure.' It looks to me like this timer opens and closes the valve with or without water pressure.
Sounds like it would be perfect timer for above ground cistern where gravity cause water to flow when valve is opened.

Amazon shows battery operated hose end, but doesn't show manual:
Hose end timers are not going to have a pressure gauge.
