The diode audio limiter is detecting when your audio levels are too high and clips the audio waveform, limiting the strength of the signal before it is further amplified by your audio amplifier. When the diode audio limiter is working, it is therefore helping eliminate static and pops that are annoying, and keep you from clearly hearing the desired signal.

This involves checking the voltages on the internal final and driver transistors. The base connection should have 4 to 6 volts on it..

I would check the wires and push to talk switch for your microphone. Likely the continuity is broken due to either a broken connection at the plug, the wire itself, or the push to talk switch. Use an ohm meter with the microphone unplugged and put the two test leads of the ohm meter across the two pins on the microphone plug that controls the on off function. When you press the push to talk switch if the ohm meter does not read near zero ohms, your problem is in your mic connections,

what no directions with it ?To program sounds into it ,if I am not mistaken , there is a microphone that comes with it to pick up anything you want to record but I think it will cover up your last sound . I have never owned one or installed one but there should have been instructions with it .

the problem is one you may not be able to work on . It will take a scope and a spectrum analyzer along with an RFSG to get this one working . Some simple ??. Does the radio come on ? Check with your hand passing over the radio to check for hot spots? The best thing to do is get it to a tech and let them work on it.

make sure the voltage switch on the back of the radio is fully into the position you are using it for. it has an a/c switch and 120 volt on the same switch .

vr 13 AM high power and VR 16 am low power

some amps like the low dead key and some like it at 4-6 watts . Most of the newer ones don't mind the high DK its the older ones that like it low . With the power output of that radio why would you want to even use an amp?

if you are going to buy one then let them wire it for you . Its easier.

VR14 hi power of 65 w and VR18 low power of 10 w what more do you need except to squash someone thats bugging you . VR 16 for 100% modulation

if they are both 4 pins you shouldn't have to rewire it .

did you maybe cross the wires somehow and pop the reverse polarity diode ? If you open the radio ,stick your nose down by the power input and take a good sniff you may smell something burnt,electrically. If you do then get a flashlight and look at the only diode that is near the power input wires ,if it looks burnt ,change it with the same diode but new. Make sure the banded end goes in the direction of the arrow .

final ? this radio has a problem of waiting for itself to warm up before operating correctly. . I have worked on several that have the same problem and the customers tell me that letting the radio warm up and you can hear the static come through the speaker then you are able to talk on the radio .

Modulation is VR16 FOR AM and VR 13 for SSB RF Power is VR 14 for high and VR 18 for Low power on AM VR 17 for SSB power.

does your truckers commercial mic work on a cobra 29? If it does then ,no problem,plug the mic into the radio and have fun . I have a cobra power mic on my 959B.

Try changing TR-51 it won't hurt to change it .

turn off the GNF so the signal can get through.If that doesn't work then try turning the squelch all the left . Its possible the squelch control inside the radio for AM is turned off .
