Frost Freezers - Recent Questions, Troubleshooting & Support
How do you make a freezer frost free?
Frost free means that the evaporator coil will not accumulate a thick layer of frost. It will not prevent frost from accumulating on the walls of the freezer. To slow down the amount of frost build up inside the freezer, do not keep the freezer door open for any longer than necessary. The freezer door seal may be defective. This would allow moisture in that would freeze on the inside walls. A heater with timed intervals to come on is one way for a frost free feature. But this will not work for frost build up on the inside walls of the freezer. It would only melt the frost and then it would refreeze again.
How to defrost
If this is an automatic defrost or "no-frost" freezer and it has developed a lot of frost and ice, call a repairman. That should never happen.
But if it's a manual defrost model, follow this procedure.
1. Turn off the freezer. Then remove all the food and toss it into a picnic cooler to keep it frozen. (Some blue ice packs will help.)
2. Open the drain on the bottom of the freezer, and put the end of the hose from the drain (which most have) into a roasting pan to catch the water from the melted frost.
3. Leave the door open. If you have a small electric space heater, blow warm air into the freezer to speed up the melting process.
4. Don't scrape the ice -- you could puncture a cooling coil in some units, making the freezer useless.
5. In about 30 or 40 minutes (15 with the space heater) the ice will be melted.
6. Dry the interior with a towel, toss the food back in, turn the freezer on again, and you're done.

My Servis fridge/freezer sounds like Darth Vader
We had the same problem and discovered that the ice making device was "on" and we don't have it hooked up. In the "on" position the pump begins to run but there is no water to pull so it sounds like breathing. The ice making bar for us on our Jenn-Air is located near the ice trays and ours needs to be in the up position for off. Hope this helps!
Side of frost free freezer is very hot
the condenser coils of the freezer anre inside the case of the freezer, they are suposed to be hot they are removing the latent heat from inside the freezer to make it cold, no heat transfer no cooling, you will notice the high heat temps a lot of the time after adding food to the freezer or when you just have started it after being turned off for some reason it is fine
Need help, fast
Sounds like she put a hole in the evaporator.BAD NEWS!!! If it is accessable it may be repaired and the unit recharged. The proper way to defrost a freezer is to empty it and pull the plug with the doors opens.Let it melt on it's own.
Servis fridge freezer
It may be that the temperature of the unit is not yet up to temp. The flashing light will indicate this.Warning the user the unit is not ready,or up to safe temp.. Let the unit run to catch up,since you just started it.
Frige freezer
possibly due to not defrosting. take off rear panel in freezer and check if there is ice build-up on the evaporator. if so, melt off carefully with a hair dryer and appliance will then work. get back to me with what you find if you wish
