you have to press a function key within 10 seconds or it will keep beeping and shutting itself off

check the keylock is not activated by holding down the key symbol for a period of 5 secs.

By the way, how long have you been using your burner? What I suspected that is your fifth burner there's something blocking on it. Maybe there are so many grease on it, I would suggest try to clean it first. Or maybe the flow gas is not that strong from fifth burner.

This would normally mean that the hotplate controller if faulty. It is not a common occurrence but it does happen.

Guy from Fagor said brown & blue go to black & red. White and ground together go to green & yellow. Hope he's right.

Our hob has the same problem. I would really like to know the reason for this! Try using a rubber eraser instead of your finger - this works every time with our hob. Covering Up and Down arrows with the rubber, zeros it instantly just like using both fingers. Hope this helps.
