Please clean the discs in + manner. Meaning, take a soft cloth and rub it un-down and sideways and not in circular manner we usually do. Also clean the read/write head of the CD drive. It is the shiny blue dot. try running the discs in your friends computer to make sure they are fine and not damaged.

This program is not vista compatable, sorry. You will either need to create an XP partition and run it from there or use another product.

Assuming you have not switched to Windows Vista with the new hardrive - as Mavis Beacon 17 does not work in that platform - then-
it sounds as though the file is corrupted. I would uninstall and reinstall the product. Unfortunately, difficult to do with out a cd or good original disk to start from. If you have your order number or purchase numbers when you bought your download, then customer support should help you get a clean download.

I don't know for certain but I have a theory - I believe some programmes collect and use bits and pieces of the Windows operating system rather than being a standalone completely self-contained programme. I think over time and a number of restarts Windows manages to claw back some of those bits and pieces but not all. This effectively stops the programme working properly or altogether and when it is finally uninstalled the remaining bits and pieces of Windows disappear also so when it is reinstalled some essentials are absent... Windows can function fairly well with lots of bits and pieces missing. It is just a theory you understand, based on my experiences and observations.
