If you have XP then try holding down the F11 key after reboot. This will start the recovery console. I have actually 3 emachines desktops. I feel your pain. If you need more help let me know.
I have a eMachines T3418 desktop, and like this
If you did a system recovery, it may have told you that it would save your data, but it wouldn't be in the recovery partition. That partition is meant for system files only and it isn't too large.
It could also have told you that your hard drive would be reformatted and the system returned to it's new condition. This means all data was wiped from the hard drive.
So--the answer is: It depends on what you agreed to when you did the system recovery.
No screen

Hello.
Not certain if you still need this, but ...
To find and install the driver for the simple
communications controller:
Go to Device Manager and click on the pci simple
communications controller
Go to Properties and then Details. You will see a code like
PCI/VEN_8086&DEV_27D8&SUBSYS...
The VEN code means vendor and the DEV code means device: in the example the
vendor is 8086 and the device is 27D8.
Once you have the two codes, go to www.pcidatabse.com. Enter the two codes and you should get
the name of your hardware.
From there, you can search for a driver download for your
hardware
Hope this helps.
Have a emachine w4885 desktop. cannot get any
hello, if it was working before, here is few things you can check, first lets verify that for some reason it is not driver issue, go in device manager and make sure there is no yellow excalmation mark in front of multimedia/audio device, if yes, follow this link and reinstall drivers and test again
http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Driver/Audio/Audio_Realtek_5.10.0.5170_XPx86_A.zip?acerid=633934348147566657&Step1=Desktop&Step2=W Series&Step3=W4686&OS=X01&LC=en&BC=eMachines&SC=PA_6E
if no excalmation mark is there and you do see your audio card in the list, try this:
go to control panel, double click the"sounds and audio devices", then click on "sounds" tab and make sure "Windows default" is selected under "sound scheme". Now go to "Audio" tab and make sure under "Sound Playback" your sound card is listed as default device. finally go to "volume" tab and make sure "Mute" is NOT checked, and "place volume icon in the taskbar" IS checked. Click "APPLY" then OK.
test your sound.
hope this helps, let me know if you any more questions.
regards
Amar Sondhi
