PSU is new. When turn on, no fans spin a

Test your PSU power supply unit or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/f/powersupplytest.htm

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle of restarting or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive power and data cables IDE SATA

the leads from your MOTHERBOARD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE make sure they have a secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty make sure all leads that are attached to your dvd\cd floppy drives have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty computers need power and data to travel through every working device to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error even something as small as a faulty electrical or fan lead can cause you problems

motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive if its a flat ribbon 40 pin type IDE replace it this will be the first to fail

check all electrical power input and extensions make sure they are securely seated even the cd/dvd floppy drives need to have current go through make sure these drives are working

also check the Cmos battery and computer RAM modules make sure they are securely seated with no dust built up or in the sockets on some motherboards cmos batteries are soldered in check you CPU central processing unit make sure its securely seated and has thermal paste it might be getting to hot the thermal paste will help disperse the heat Thermal compound is a sticky paste that is placed directly onto the CPU. Allowing for a more direct heat transfer between the CPU and HEAT SINK and preventing air gaps from forming between the CPU and heat sink. hope this helps

Front power switch broken. Bezel won't come off

I would suggest this generic Power On switch,

1) http://www.directron.com/atxswitch.html,

and the Red, and Black twisted pair of wires go to the Power On switch.

Your statement of ,"....don't know which of the colored pairs of wires go.....", leads me to believe you may have all of the Front Panel wires disconnected.

How about information as to where ALL the Front Panel wires go?
(Provided I have correctly interpreted your statement)

Back in the time that the eMachines T2542 was made, TriGem was the motherboard manufacturer.

The Model Name of the motherboard is Imperial, and the Model Number of the motherboard, could have been one of four variations offered.

Model Name: Imperial
Model numbers could be G, GL, GV, or GLVE
(Imperial G, Imperial GL, Imperial GV, or Imperial GLVE)

ALL four variations used the same Front Panel header.
(The connector on the motherboard the Front Panel wires connect to, is named the Front Panel header)

I would like you to view this page,

http://www.e4allupgraders.info/dir1/ecase/support/front_panel_header_support.shtml

Scroll down to the heading -
Trigem Imperial Front Panel Header Pinout.

A) Pins 1, 2, and 3 are for the Power On LED light.

B) Pins 5 and 6 are for the HarDDrive activity LED light.
(Pin 4 is not used. NC. No Connection)

C) Pins 7 and 8 are for the Power On switch

D) I wouldn't connect any wires to Pins 9 and 10, nor Pins 11 and 12

E) Pins 14 and 15 are for the Reset switch. (The button you press to restart your computer.
If the T2542 doesn't have a Reset switch, don't worry about it. There are many other ways to restart your computer)

F) Pins 17 18, and 20 are for an internal speaker.
This speaker is used for BIOS Beep Codes.

In the chart to the right, you will see GRD used many times.
GRD stands for Ground.
ANY Black wire in the twisted pair of wires, is a Ground wire.

Most of the eMachines I have worked on, use a Red, and Black pair of twisted wires for the Power On switch.
I could be mistaken on the T2542.

Best method, is to follow the color code of the wires that come from Pins 7 and 8, and be sure.

Wont boot

If you know how to dis-assemble the parts of your PC, then try to clean connectors, display card, memory. The CPU mounting... be careful to remove the cooling fan then move the cpu retainer arm back and forth that is to regain better contacts of cpu leads. if you have an spare keyboqrd, try replacing it, if you have sa defective keyboard controller then you will have failure to boot sometimes. after cleaning the PC pheriperals, put it back and reset your BIOS/Cmos and configure as you neede, basic fail safe setup.

I need a wireing dieagram for the motherboard on a T3065 e machine

You will find (normally in the bottom right) 2 rows of pins sticking out of the motherboard. Some of these will have connections to them with wires coming out and going to the front of your cumputer. Look for a free space usually about 2 or 3 pins, marked PWR, O/I or PSW. Alternatively it may be color coded Blue or Green is usually the color for the power switch. I have attached a picture of an e machine motherboard showign the location of the connectionsOne of hte pins might be marked with a + this can be ignored if you are just connecting the power switch.

Test all power and data leads that attach to your hard drive IDE,SATA

the leads from your (motherboard to your hard drive) make sure they have secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they might be faulty

if its a 40 pin flat ribbon type it will be the first to fail

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty

The machine turns on and off by itself. I turned it on after a month a was able to keep it on long enough to download one of ten updates and then it turned off. What could be the problem?

When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail. A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust. Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan. If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.
