eMachines T5048?Suggest you enter BIOS Setup, and in Boot Options, set the first boot device to CDROM.This makes the computer boot from the Recovery disk.How to enter BIOS Setup? (May be called CMOS Setup also, but I don't believe the computer is that old)Look at the bottom of the monitor screen, as soon as the eMachines logo comes up. It will state what key to press to - enter BIOS Setup.Usually it's the DELete key, or F2 key,. for eMachines. May be the Tab key.Window of opportunity went by, and you didn't get into BIOS Setup?S'okay. We just need to know what key to press, for now.Got the key written down?Open the optical drive, and put the Recovery disk in. Close the optical drive tray.Now hold the Power On button in, and for a count of 10 seconds.Turns the computer off.WAIT 1 minute, turn the computer on.AS SOON AS you press the Power On button, start tapping on the enter BIOS Setup key.Tap in 2 second intervals.Hear beeps? Ignore them. They are Stuck Key Error Code beeps, and it is you that is doing it.Takes a few seconds. Now you should be looking at the BIOS Setup utility, and the Main menu.BIOS Setup utilities change from computer to computer.That's because there are 3(?) major BIOS manufacturing companies, and each BIOS has a different version.(Phoenix/Award and AMI)The menu headings may go across the top.Just one example;Main / Advanced / Power / Boot / ExitOr they may be listed in a column,

You have to use the Keyboard to navigate around.With the menu's going across the top, for example; you would use the Right Arrow key, and highlight -> BootThen press the Enter key.With menus that are in a column, use the Down Arrow key to highlight Advanced, or Advanced BIOS. (Or Advanced CMOS)Press the Enter key.You will see - First Boot Device, Second Boot Device, Third Boot Device, and Boot from other.To the right you will see the various devices, the computer can boot from;HarDDrive, (HDD-0), CDROM, Floppy, Internet, etc.You want CDROM to be to the right of First Boot Device.If the devices are just listed in an order, you want CDROM at the Top.With First Boot Device, Second Boot Device, etc listed;Use the Down Arrow, and highlight First Boot Device.Press the Enter key.Your cursor will now be in the device order list.Use the Down Arrow key to highlight CDROM.Now look at the navigation guide at the bottom.To move CDROM to the Top, you may press the;Page Up/Page Down key, or the +/- key. (Plus/Minus key)Depends on what is listed in the navigation guide at bottom.(If +/- key just press the - key)With CDROM at the Top press the Enter key.Things differ here too;A small window may come up asking, Save Changes?It may show F12 - Save ChangesOr it may show a Y for Yes, and an N for No(Or Yes/No)If F12 just press the F12 key, and the computer will restart.If you have the Recovery disk in the optical drive, the computer will now boot from it.If Yes/No, or Y/N; use the appropriate Arrow key, and highlight Y, or Yes. (Note: If Y just press the lower case y. The uppercase Y is just shown for clarity)Press the Enter key.If the Recovery disk is in the optical drive, the computer will boot from it.Recovery disk isn't in the optical drive? No sweat. Put it in there.Now press the CTRL key, ALT key, and DElete key AT THE SAME TIME.This makes the computer restart.If you have never approached this procedure before, it probably looks like, "Wa-wa-wa".(That's what my niece states when I try to explain computer technology.
