When you set your main installation to player 2, you should also set the remote control to player 2. By that they match again.To do this, you press the "open/close" button and the "power" button both at the same time at the remote control for about 3 seconds. You will see the red led blinking twice. Then you press the button "2". The red led will blink twice again, after which the main installation and the remote control should both match as player 2.To change this setting on the remote control, you don't need to have an infra-red contact with the main installation.

Considering you have a standby light we know the hot side of the power board is working, next step is test the power on signal coming from the main board, it should be marked on the legend on the power board what pin is power on, will be marked PO_ ON PWR or something like that, you need at least 3 vdc there when you turn the set on, if it's missing replace the main board, if you see voltage replace the power board, easy simple fix with only one measurement, verses guessing what board is bad. I have had the same thing happen with my blu-ray. I have tried cleaning the disc; the lens, occasionally with success. flashing the bios. also known as update of the system [can be done online {if equipped} of mine also has a usb port {download the correct file to a USB drive and re-power DVD with the drive in place}]. if these things don't work try manufacturer tech support. I had mine replaced because it wpould NOT flash. good luck.

Unfortunately, some blu-ray players contain software that expires, requiring you to repurchase newer, more expensive software from the manufacturer in order to continue to play blu-ray discs. sounds like its stoping during layer switch, if the player is old its needs to be cleaned. its best to clean it once every 20hrs or so. if you do not have a disk cleaner you should go buy one first. if the player is new return it and get the best dvd player you can buy for any amount the toshiba xde. this player is phenomenal, the best you will be amazed. no i dont work for toshiba but ever since they started making hd dvd players(i know they stopped)there players have become the best. trust me if you dont think so just return it. no harm done. if you want a blu-ray get ps3 I dont like them either but i have to admit after buying (for movies only)my third blu-ray player it is by far the best one. almost as good as the toshiba on standard dvd playback but not quite. good luck.
