I have a Dell monitor model #1901FP when my

The solution I am about to describe refers to a backlight problem, which is most common in Dell 15,17 & 19" monitors. The symptoms are as you describe:
  • You power on the monitor, the green on/off switch illuminates and the display works for approx 1-2 seconds and then goes blank.
  • The green on/off switch stays illuminated but the screen remains blank
  • If you shine a torch into the LCD matrix you can see the display being rendered faintly
  • Switching the monitor off and then on again illuminates the display again for 1-2 seconds before going blank again
This is a backlight fault and is most likely to be caused by the failure of two of the four driver transistors used to light the lighting tubes in the LCD Matrix. This fault is easy to repair if you (or a friend) have a soldering iron and a voltmeter.

Inside the monitor there is an inverter board that acts as a power supply for the monitor and the logic necessary to control the backlights (illumination and brightness control). There are four lighting tubes, which are controlled by two lighting circuits (two lighting tubes per circuit). At the heart of the inverter board is a chip that monitors feedback from the two lighting circuits and closes the back-light circuit down if either of the lighting circuits fail, thus any component failure will exhibit the same symptoms.

The transistors which fail most often cost pence to replace (types C5706 or C5707). However, their failure in unlikely to be the cause of the problem. My first crack at fixing this fault, by replacing the transistors, resulted in them failing again within 24/48Hrs. The cause of the problem will be dry solder joints or loose connections on the high-voltage side of the circuit, usually on the backlight transformer in the effected circuit. If you re solder each of the connectors on the transformer you will save the transistors from blowing again - the transformer generates 1,400Volts for the lighting tubes and at this voltage, arcing across the a dry solder joint, will quickly destroy the transistors again.

No soldering iron? - A complete inverter board replacement is also reasonably cheap and easy repair. These are widely available.

Sorry of this is more detail than you expected but it may help others reading this article.

No display.

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/2005FPW/En/setup.htm#Using%20the%20OSD

Make sure the proper input is selected

1: D-SUB for Blue VGA cable
2: DVI-D for White DVI cable

The option selected should be indicated on the power save screen.

If changing the input select and rebooting the computer have no effect an no video from the computer is ever displayed, then the monitor is in need of repair.

I have the dell 2405fpw

Hi , an oldie but goodie ... seems fault might be with your computer graphics device if input from other devices work ok - presuming you have toggled to the correct input via the far right Display input selector button and the appropriate signal cable is connected correctly at both ends Maybe start with ensuring one graphics output only is connected from the computer to the display and the correct input selected on the display via the far left (?) control button ( If you have the nous also help for peace of mind if BIOS setup video control is configured for the correct default video device - particularly if using a graphics/video expansion card - cmos battery might be bad and BIOS has unattended reset to default - I presume your computer is of the same release date era ) Got to start first investigating the basic errors - user ver1 or system

Monitor Goes into Power Save Mode

old post 2017, 1 year old. Desktop and very old monitor. This old monitor is CCFL and those fail super easy now.built in 2005, backlamps are mostly dead now.VGA cable? or DVI#1 or 2 port connectedthe monotor told you PC went to sleep modeI believe it. I bet the monitor works on any other PC you try, I bet.so put the PC VISTA in into presentation mode.(like we do with presentations, or kiosk mode, or using a nice DLP projector in theater)just one app does this belowor learn to usecontrol panel, + Power settings, and advanced.turn off all sleep modes, all hibernate modes.turn on all wake-on modes, for sure USB ports.make sure device manager is not showing dead devices (chips) if it is , that means get the missing drivers from Dell, for VISTA. Dell has them on your support pageand we are not DELL.https://downloads.tomsguide.com/Dont-Sleep,0301-28162.html

Power on issue

I had the same thing happen recently. I wish it was better news but It's a Capacitor that's burning out. For myself, I just grabbed another monitor from my garage but I did look up the problem first and found video's on how to fix the problem. It requires some soldering and a little talent along those lines. I have no doubt I could do it, I just didn't feel like doing it then. At the bottom of this post is one link to a DIY Fix it vid. Another option is to find a used monitor. Of course there are sites like E-Bay or Craig's that you could try but there is a recycle site that people give things away and take things on, called (freecycle). This is a great site, I've used it in both directions many times with no problems. NOTE: Use common sense. I recommend that anytime your going to meet someone from the web you don't know that you take someone with you or at the very least tell someone exactly where you going and any other pertinent info. Here are the 2 links I mentioned https://www.freecycle.org/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3Nr7wAT84I

Monitor problem

It sounds as if the backlights are failing. It is probably cheaper to replace the monitor than anything. If you need further help, reach me via phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/steven_a67ead41eb5fc62a

Dell 1905FP powers up but screen goes black after a few minutes

The monitors inverter seems to be failing. If you look up close, can you see a very faint image of the desktop? You should think about getting a new monitor it might be cheaper than repairing.

Dropped keyboard. Now display on

Hello, the message Analog input in power save mode means that your monitor is not getting a signal from your computer. Maybe you moved the video cable while reconnecting your keyboard? check both ends of your video cable. If you have a DVI cable, then your monitor has to be switched to digial input. I hope this helps.

When I restarted the computer,

Such is life when you leave both monitor and pc on all the time and have them unprotected by a surge protector and have it subjected to repeated power failures and power surges. Either the hardware fails or the system software becomes corrupted. When there is a power failure, unplug your monitor and pc, wait for power to be restored and only then plug them back in. That may not stop errors from the power failure but it will stop hardware from being fried by a power surge. I think your best bet is to take it to a shop and have them boot the computer from a Windows 7 disk (if that is your operating system). If you video card has not been fried, that should load your drivers and operate your monitor (which you will take along also.) If it can be booted, then software corruptions introduced may be fixed and disk errors fixed. If you had an autobooting repair flash drive, it alone might fix the problem. But you would have to have a rather geeky pal around to have that. One might be made using resources at Majorgeeks. There is a wee possibility that you could try another monitor with the system and that monitor might work and you could try entering safe mode with networking via F8 at boot. Then you might try using the sfc command or error correcting programs such as Tweaking.com's windows repair and or Glary Utilities. Sorry but the repair possibilities rather shoot off in a variety of directions. Windows 7 has a number of repair options built if you can get the system to boot.
