Comfort-Aire Dehumidifiers - Recent Questions, Troubleshooting & Support
My Comfort-Aire BHD-501-B is running. However,
I don't think it's a thermistor problem, as previous respondents have suggested. I have one of these units. The control panel has been nothing but trouble. The Power button works, but the Fan Speed button is stuck on High. The Humidity Up/Down buttons only work sporadically. Sometimes they work if I keep punching them. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to when they work and when they don't. I think they're just cheap parts that have failed prematurely.
Where is the float
Don't know your model specifically, but the float is usually at the top of your water tank and activates the system to shut down by popping up when the tank is full. With some tanks you can actually reach in and sort of clean off the float. Jelly-like stuff can build up on the float after a number of years. Cleaning it off wouldn't hurt.
Ok, so how do I get the owners manual???
Go on-line and type the make and model number of your dehumidifier into the box of your search engine. Most companies post their manuals and repair info. on their websites, so they don't have to pay people to answer the telephone. Just print off the manual and you are all set.
Do you put water in a dehumidifier
No, a dehumidifier takes water out of the air where it's placed. If it's very humid in the air, you should have a tank full of water after a few hours.
Full light stays on always
Don't know your model specifically, but most dehumidifiers have a float that shuts the system down when the tank is full. Maybe the float is not going up and down like it should. With the power off and the tank out, see if the float is descending like it should when the tank is out. Popping it up and down a few times might solve the problem.
How do I connect my dehumidifier with a hose directly to a drain
Are you much of a handyman? Most folks set their dehumidifier on a counter or elevated and run the exhaust tubing right into a sink or toilet. You could collect the water to flush a toilet or water the grass if you are handy. I've never seen anyone connect directly to a drain though.
What does the check filter light indicate?
Don't know your model specifically, but you might want to check the air filter at the front. It could be totally clogged up and no air can pass through for the system to work.
Bucket removal is extremely difficult. What should I do?
There's usually a piece or tubing that hangs down into the tank and you need to pull your tank past this when removing it to drain your dehumidifier. Are you lifting from the top or bottom? Try the opposite of what you are doing. Sorry I don't know your model specifically, but often there's an outlet or cap at the bottom of the tank that can have a plastic piece of aquarium type tubing hooked to it. This way if you can elevate the whole dehumidifier, say on a counter, the water can just drain into a sink or if you're a real conserver into a storage tank to use to flush your toilet or water your grass.
