After partitionning my hard disk, I loaded UBUNTU,

It depends. If the "partitioning" used the entire disk-drive, rather than "preserving" the existing partition in which Windows was loaded, then you need to re-install Windows.

Either use the set of "System Restore" CD-ROM disks that were provided with your computer,
or telephone the manufacturer and order a replacement set of those disks (probably $20, plus $20 for overnight courier). Or, borrow a "retail" Windows XP CD-ROM, and install Windows,
using the 25-character product-key on the decal on the side/bottom of your computer.

SiS Mirage 3 Graphics (128 MB) VGA

No, as there is no actual 3D support in the driver in Linux. Even on Windows, 3D support is abysmal, so you're not missing much.

I want to change my linux 9.10 password but it

Your question is somewhat confusing. If the password you set is not the same one that your parents originally set, they will of course know that you changed it. If the password tool is complaining that the password is too simple, then it is most likely not the password your parents set, because they would have encountered the same message.

You can set a password of arbitrary (non-null) length from the command line using the command sudo passwd

Hi, when I start my lap

This indicates the the root file system has been damaged in some fashion, removing the init program and destroying the /proc directory, and possibly others as well. The only real solution is to try to reinstall. If the problem reoccurs frequently, you may have a damaged hard drive.

How to establish a network connection using

Make sure that you have samba installed, that will allow you to share folders as shares that Windows can see.

If you want to get tot he CLI on the ubuntu server from the XP machines, just download PuTTY (just google 'download putty'), and then you should be able to SSH to the ubuntu server.

Hope that helps!

Ubuntu sound problem

Hi Josh

First of all check system setting.

It seems like your modules are not loaded, if you just installed, I recommend you to
re-install Ubuntu, if this is not the case, try to run -

sudo apt-get -f install

If everything fails, try this - sudo /etc/init.d/alsa-utils start
