My suspicion is carburetor (fuel). Possibly water in carb bowl (and tank).

Suggest you drain all fuel. Remove carburetor bowl, drain and clean, reassemble.

Fill with fresh fuel.

If you capture fuel and transfer to a clear glass jar, water is indicated by a discernable line, fuel on top of water.

Comment here with results.

Chain saws don't get hot for no reason. If you do get out of this jam unscathed. Try to find out why its running hot. The fuel mix may be wrong or the carb is not operating correctly. Pull the side cover off the bar and see if the clutch is seized to the chain brake. If it is fine the piston may be sized inside the cylinder. If this is the case you will have to remove the head and look at the cylinder and piston. You can try using a 1-1/2" wooden spindle, a hammer to drive the cylinder down and some mystery oil to help free it up. If the cylinder and piston is damaged forget about it. The scoring will affect compression and make for a hard or no start. Cross your fingers. It may be time for a new saw.

Air filter is soaked, water in gas, igniter coil is cracked and will not work until it dries out, igniter coil is bad and needs to be replaced or it is a coincidence and the spark plug is fouled or bad.

Kind of depends on how handy you are. First open the air filter and check to see that it is dry. Check to see if the spark plug wire is dry. A little starting fluid is a must in my garage. Spray for a couple of seconds in the air cleaner. Good luck and don't hesitate to ask more. Sean

Are there different types of lawn aerators? Does it matter which one I buy?

A: There are 2 main types of lawn aerators;
1. Core/Plug aerators
2. Spike aerators

It really depends on whether you are dealing with soil that is heavy clay or sandy etc. so you need to know your land type before you buy.
