It may be the alarm that is telling you that the cook pan is not making a good connection to the hob. Does it do it with all pots? Stainless steel, copper sandwich with ground bottoms are best. Here is a disassembly video. A loose knob problem can be tackled by pulling off the knob, encircling the cracked plastic with a zip tie (after putting Loctite glue in the cracks), pulling the zip tight. Don't lose the sleeve when you pull off the knob. You will need the model number to order the part, the outer element which is most likely burned out. J.
