It is actually a known issue. If it is the old electro-mechanical type with a dial, it runs off a small synchronous motor. Try cutting the power on an off 2 or 3 times a second apart. Anyway, your Noma Timer is made by Woods. It does on have one button purely because it is a photoelectric timer. It comes on when it get dark, so it needs no On or Start button. Your single button sets the number of hours the power stays on. So, if it gets dark at 5:00 pm, and you want the lights to go off at 11:00 pm, you press the button 6 times until you see '6' in the display. That's it. it will turn on at 5:00 and turn off 6 hours later at 11:00 pm. You CAN'T set it to come on at 4:00. It will only come on when it gets to a certain light intensity at dusk.
