The obvious cause of brother printer saying its offline is because it is not set as the default printer on your computer. You can easily change the status of Brother MFC 5890 CN printer offline to online. Under the devices section in your computer check, if it is listed as devices. You must re install the driver from the website. In case, you need to use the Brother Printer offline. Right click on the icon of Brother Printer machine. That sounds like your problem.

In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. I also Purchased a Brother. That also does not like Generic Print Cartridges. Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, Blue Brown, etc. These printers have a CHIP that will detect if it is Generic or Genuine.

When they see it’s Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, mis-align the letters & put stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors.

That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, and some are refillable. Some you can refill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for these PRINTERS. Some people say some models work fine compatible, but not mine.......

I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. Don’t waste too much ink in cleaning it.

Solution:
· Machine off
· Switch on the machine while holding down the “menu”button until all the leds are flashing on/off. Now you are in “maintenance” mode.
· Press 80
· Press the “mono start” button several times until you see “purge: xxxx”
· Press “2783” in order to reset the purge counter. You will see: “purge:0000”
· Press the "stop" button.
· Press “99” to exit the maintenance mode.

Bad news ! That roller at the rear is the fuser heating roller. I have had the exact same thing happen to a very expensive brother color laser printer. My printer had the paper fused to this fuser heater roller. Recommend getting printer fixed by a brother service place. I am guessing that Brother service will have to replace the fuser unit

it might be a broken sensor or a broken sensor needle on the cover, open the adf cover check under it, there a protruding plastic(arrow like) that presses the sensor whenever u close the adf cover,check for any breakage or crack, if breakage is found use a folded paper to press it for testing (sensor), if it does not run after doing that, it's a sign that the sensor is dead you have to change it if you can,good luck.

like the name suggest, it collects waste toner. Any toner that is left over from the print process is waste toner. Once the waste toner bottle is full, the printer will stop working until You have replaced it with an empty waste toner bottle. So in short, if it is telling u to get a new one, get one or the other option is to empty it yourself which is very messy and if u dont clean the bottle of all toner dust, may not even work.

The ink ribbon cartridge is either used up or missing.

You have a bad FUSER. There's nothing you can do. A dealer must replace the fuser.

is your fax machine connected to the phone line? this usually indicates the connection status, thus, if your phone line is in...you wont have the "offline message".

Is it giving any errors when you try to print?

Here are troubleshooting steps to get the printer back online. It may be a matterof just removing a tic in a box. On the other hand, it could be you just don't have the driver installed. Go to the Brother site and download the driver for your model and double click upon it to install it. It is always very useful to include the model number of the printer and any error messages you have encountered. This one is really easy if you know what're you doing. Just go to your printer in control panel to bring up the print dialog. Go to printer at the top of page, drop down the menu and uncheck use printer off line. That should fix your problem. If you "right click" on the printer icon, is there an option to "use printer Online", If so click it, and the problem should be solved. If it just says "use printer offline" then that is not the problem, and I suggest re-installing the software.

Go into control panel, open up printers and devices, select printers, find your printer and double click. When the printer comes up you will be able to choose that printer to be online.
