J140 ink box near full
First thing you need to do is to reset it. If you reset it and continue to use it without completing the process of cleaning it out completely you will have the waste ink tank overflow causing major damage to the machine, your desk it is on and possably the carpet, curtains and anything even close to touching the machine and subsequent items being touched by the machine. Ink on a non-porous material will travel a very long way damaging everything in it's path.
Menu - Black Start - Up Arrow x4
This needs to be done in the space of about 5 seconds.
On the screen should now read Maintenance.
using the up and down arrows get the LCD screen to read the following: Between each number you need to press the 'OK' Button
8
0
This is now in Function 80 which is the system log.
Use the black start button to get to the log for Purge or Flush counter it is normally somewhere in the region of 25th in the list.
Once you are on this item. Use the up and down arrows and the OK button to do the following sequence:
2
7
8
3
This will reset the purge/flush counter to 0
Press the Stop button to return to the Maintenance on the LCD screen point.
use the up and down arrows and ok button to do the sequence:
9
9
This will exit you from the Maintenace Mode.
Now you will have reset the counter but you are not done yet. We are up to the hard part now and the messiest.
You need to clean the Waste Ink Tank out. You have to dismantle the printer to get to the waste ink tank. This requires a bit of knowhow to do it without damaging the machine but you can't get the knowhow without opening up the machine. This will require removing several screws and unclipping various parts of the casing then removing several cables to allow the different parts to seperate. If you are unsure or don't want to risk it don't do it as damaging the machine or the electronics inside the machine just means shelling out for a new printer and rather than spend the time to reset the machine and cleaning it out only to replace the machine because of a broken part on dissasembly or reassembly you may just want to replace it outright. It may be in one of two places. Depends on the machine. The cleaning process is the same for both systems.
The easiest machines have it in a box behind the paper feed mechanisim. Disconnect the two feed tubes from the box and remove the box. Break the plastic seal over the Waste Ink Tank material.
The not so easy machine has the waste ink tank underneath the main chassis of the printer. You have to lift all the components if the machine up to get to the waste ink tank. Do this to access the material.
Remove the material and clean it out using lots of running water squeezing as much ink from the material as possible. Wrapping it in Newspaper to absorb water put it on the ground and stand on it to squeeze any water out. Place the material aside for a couple of days in a warm dry place to completely dry out. Put the material back in the respective waste ink locations as shown above. Then reassemble the machine and test.
Failure to complete the cleaning process I stress again WILL result in the overflowing of the Waste Ink Tank. Proceed at your own risk.

How to remove a black line off scanned papers
Black hair lines can come from what is called the slit glass. Does the line appear when you can from just on the glass? If that scan is OK and the line appears when you run through the document feeder than the small glass just before the top glass needs a good clean, or sometimes in the machine the optics has some dirt on it.
CLEAN UNABLE 5A
printer's purge unit has reached its counter limit and needs replacing
MY BROTHER PRINTER DCP-395 CN ERROR IN UNABLE TO INTI 4F PLEASE SOLUTION
This error is associated with the self test the printer does on the print head during power-up of the printer.
Sadly, it is indicative of either a faulty print head or a faulty main control board, neither of which are easy or inexpensive to replace.
Unless you can get hold of another machine with a different fault and swap over the print head and/or board (you'll need very good skills and tools to do this) then I'm afraid the machine is beyond economic repair*.
* Brother will repair your machine but the cost will likley be more than a new one.

Where are the green tabs on the drum unit that I'm suppose to slide
When looking at the drum and cartridge combined. The embossed Brother Logo should be up the correct way. Above this logo on the Drum Unit itself near the top is the slider. Slide this all the way across and back. Making sure that the arrows on the slider meets up with the arrow on the Drum Unit. This process is cleaning the Corona Wire. If you leave the slider anywhere else but where the arrows meet you will end up with a solid line running vertically from top to bottom of the page where this slider sits.

Machine error 50
On a Brother printer Error 50 typically means that the Fuser is malfunctioning.
Turn the printer off for about 5 minutes. Then turn the printer back on and wait for about 10 minutes. If after 10 minutes the printer doe not recover, you will need to replace the fuser unit. May be more economical to replace the whole printer.
Accidentally turned off computer printer now not working..
windows make loads of hardware errors, if it is not being picked up by the computer but the printer is turning on check it has not been installed as with the same name but a number after, if so select that for printing if not try plugging the usb lead from the printer in to a different socket on the PC.
hope that helps

Purge Counter Reset Instructions
Please note that some of the terms used below to describe buttons may change from one printer to another. For example:
- START may be down as MENU or SET on your printer or be a green button
- STOP may be referred to as EXIT or a red button
Before you begin the reset procedure your Brother inkjet printer needs to be in maintenance mode, but depending upon the model of your printer the method of doing this will vary. For most modern Brother printers please try the following:
- With the printer turned on and ready to print remove the power cable from the printer (or turn the printer off if you have a fixed power cable).
- Hold down MENU/SET/START and re-insert the power cable/turn it back on.
- Keep the button held down until the screen reads MAINTENANCE.
If your screen does not now say MAINTENANCE it will need to be put into maintenance mode using one of the two methods below:
- Printers with a built-in Fax: Hold down MENU/SET/START and quickly press * 2 8 6 4.
- Printers WITHOUT a Fax: Hold down Menu/Set and the Black Start key before pressing the UP arrow four times.
Now your printer should say MAINTENANCE on the screen and you are ready to begin the process of actually resetting the purge counter.
- Type in 80 using the numerical keypad.
- Use the DOWN key to locate the purge counter. eg. PURGE0060025
- Use the number pad to enter 2783 (this should zero the numbers after PURGE).
- Press STOP/EXIT to return to the first stage of maintenance mode.
- Press 9 and 9 to exit maintenance mode.
Your purge counter is now reset and you can now resume printing as normal. If however this has not cleared the error message I advise going through this guide again following the instructions to the letter. If the error persists please let us know.
Unable 4F error
Don't know what Clive is talking about. That will not cure a 4F.
Cene765 is bang on. Also his comment to buy a new printer is also spot on . the cost of repair far outweighs the value of the printer.
Brother DCP-J4110DW. Why is the ink absorber full?
The ink absorber box or flushing box is nearly full. These components are periodic maintenance items that may require replacement after a period of time to ensure optimum performance from your Brother machine. Because these components are periodic maintenance items, the replacement is not covered under the warranty. The need to replace these items and the time period before replacement is dependent on the number of purges and flushes required to clean the ink system. These boxes acquire amounts of ink during the different purging and flushing operations. The number of times a machine purges and flushes for cleaning varies depending on different situations. For example, frequently powering the machine on and off will cause numerous cleaning cycles since the machine automatically cleans upon power up. The use of non-Brother ink may cause frequent cleanings because non-Brother ink could cause poor print quality which is resolved by cleaning. The more cleaning the machine requires the faster these boxes will fill up. http://support.brother.com/g/b/faqlist.aspx?c=as_ot&lang=en&prod=dcpj4110dw_eu_as&tabid=2
