There's a lot more to it than removing the cover. The sensing bulb is attached to the evaporator coil inside the box. This requires a lot of disassembly to expose that tube.

Ice makers have heaters that loosen the cubes when time for harvest. Sounds like the heater on yours is bad, or maybe the ice maker itself is just bad. Most likely will have to replace ice maker.
