Has the horizontal shaft gear (white nylon gear) inside your overlocker failed? Does it look like this?

My repair man obtained this part from Bernina and was able to repair this although it is a labour intensive repair requiring pulling down the whole machine to do. But the part itself was only $US38.

Or you could ring Bernina head office in your country and talk to someone about it as I was initially told my machine was unrepairable as this part was not available by a local store who wanted to sell me a new one. I guess in light of the 4-5 hour repair time, this is probably a valid call if you buy a new plastic serger but I love my Bernette and felt it was worth repairing, not junking it. It is now 5 years later and still going strong since that repair. My OSMG (old sewing machine guy) Ken told me that the nylon gears sometimes will just crack, even if the machine hasn't had lots of work, just plastic ageing.

The only way the cable could get damaged is by taking the housing off incorrectly.

see your local dealer and tell them you have a bad power board. or l-print. this is a known issue and bernina is covering it under there 5 year warranty. the 5 volt output is faulty on some some models

Unlikely, but you can try if you don't mind trying to get in behind it and see what is binding. When was the last time it was serviced? They should be cleaned, serviced and timed every 2 years even with minimal use. If it is a sideline business, every year.

Since it has been in storage for a period of time with no regular care, I'm guessing it has seized. Recommend taking it for a thorough checkup.

Unfortunately this could be a number of reasons, ranging from simple to hard. Taking the simple first - make sure the 2-pin plug is properly inserted into the machine - if it stops, try wiggling the plug first to see if that 'resets' the machine. If it's OK, it might be the switch on the power supply - I've had a couple that needed replacing, but in all honesty, the problem is probably internal and could range from a poorly-inserted plug on the main control board, to a component problem on the board itself, which could be costly to replace. Is your machine still in warranty (2 years on electronic parts) - if-so, get it checked-out by your Bernina service agent, just in case ... dont go messing-about with the machine yourself. Before doing this ... check exactly what happens when it stops sewing ..... I assume that the foot controller doesn't make any difference ..... check if the sewing light is still on, or the display backlight, and is the display still showing any information, or has it gone blank ? Does it happen on all patterns - straight/zig-zag etc. or a memory pattern ? This may help to identify the likely cause.

Make sure that your needle is straight, if you have a bent needle it can affect the down position.

Check stitch length setting. If selecting a long stitch length doesn't remedy the problem then it likely needs maintenance (clean and lube).

Remove the right side cover. Loosen the Alan screw above the pulleys that should allow u to remove the belts. Be sure to replace with Bernina belts. After replacement, tighten the belts by pushing down on the pulley slightly, then retighten the Alan screw

There is usually a way of dimming the LED screen, but if that doesn't work, it's possible a computer component is dying.

I repaired one last week for the same fault.

A component called a capacitor blew on the main circuit board. I was able to repair it but you may have to replace the entire board.

Expensive job but worth it as its a quality machine.
