its working correct... thats sounds normal now you just need to wake it up. turn it on using the remote supplied by your cabe operator. if anything it may be your remote that isn't working. does a "cbl" light or anything light up on the remote when you press the cable box power button? if not try to find out how to put it in cable mode and try again. wish i had more info good luck

Take your Shaw remote control. Press SETTINGS. Use LEFT/RIGHT to highlight the "house". Press OK. Scroll-down to MESSAGES. Press OK. View a "message" from your cable-TV provider. Click to DELETE the message. The "red-light" will go out.

If it is "new", then take it back to Shaw, and exchange it.
