Relace flush valve seal

The American Standard Cadet 3 flowise one piece toilet uses a flapper valve with a soft nylon washer to seal against the water outlet. Over time this nylon washer develops 'puckers' causing water to seep between the nylon washer and the seat of the flapper. This seepage causes the water level in the tank to drop to a point where the water inlet valve opens to replace the lost water in the tank. There are two ways to correct this problem: 1. Replace the soft nylon washer on the flapper, or 2. Replace the entire flapper valve. Hope this solution helps.

I have a toilet that won't hold water in the

You could have an inadequate or blocked vent which is allowing some other drain flow to **** the water out of the bowl (but you would hear it going glug glug) So, more likely, you have a cracked toilet bowl. If no water is leaking onto the floor it must be cracked in a way that allows the water to leak down the drain (by-passing the trap that is built into the back of the bowl). You will have to replace it. The good news is that replacing the bowl is far easier than fixing the vent problem.
But before you replace it, you can test it. Remove the whole toilet from the floor. Elevate it on some blocks over a bucket. Fill the bowl using another bucket and watch what happens.

When flushing toilet, water spins in bowl but does

It's either plugged or the tank isn't filling properly.
If it's the tank then the fill valve in the tank needs to be adjusted. There should be a screw to adjust the float ball. Back the screw out until the fill valve starts to run;let the water run until the tank fills to the fill line then turn the screw back in.Try flushing the toilet. If that doesn't work then the toilet is probably plugged.
If it's plugged you may need to rent/borrow a snake to clear the line.

Cadet 3 toilet smells like pee - NOT a SEWER

If your contractor supplied the toilet, then it is his/her problem, not yours. If you supplied the toilet, then: take a mirror and examine under the lip of the bowl. How does the glazing look? Are there areas without glaze? If so, these bare areas are a breeding ground for bad odors. You can try a thorough cleaning both inside the bowl and around the outside of the toilet with an amonia cleaning product. If you use amonia, DO NOT use bleach: the two combined create a deadly gas. Whatever you do, do not hang a bleach based product inside the tank: the bleach will eat away at anything rubber inside the tank. There is a bleach product that hangs inside the tank and disperses the bleach directly into the tube that leads to the toilet bowl. This would be OK.

We put in the toilet on sat. Since then every time you flush there is a big air bubble in the bowl, the other toilet we took out did not do this, poured a 5 lb bucket of water down it and that did

The new toilet has more flushing volume than the old one. The system should handle this. The problem could be the vents on the roof are plugged or something in the line is obstructing the flow. You will need to contact a plumber

The hot water stops coming out of faucet

if this is the faucet in picture, turn off water, pull out cartridge and inspect for any debris in cartridge or valve body, if not, turn on hot water to see if water is getting through valve body. May have kinked line or debris from or in angle stop line.

My american standard model 4040 faucet is leaking at the base of the spout.

I checked online at www.plumbingwarehouse.com/american-standard-kitchen-faucet-hamilton-4040. There is a diagram that shows a seal kit that probably needs to be replaced. The diagram is really good and shows a complete breakdown of your faucet. I hope this helps.

I have an american standard single handle shower that needs to be replaced and it has no set screw. there are two holes under handle. How do i remove the handle? PS: i took a flash light and mirror

Go to your hardware store. Buy a set of allen keys. they look like an 'L' made from hexagonal bar. Turn the water off at the house cock. turn the shower handle on, insert the long 'leg' of the allen key. It will be the a fairly small one (1/16" possibly). Once slotted home turn it anti-clockwise several times. Then try to gently pull the handle off. It may have a bit of resistance if it is an old fitting. If not turn the allen key a few more times and try again.

Leaking sewer pipe

Depending on how many pipes you have connected in the run from the toilet to the concrete pipe, I would replace all of it with plastic pipe and a new soil pipe if I could find one, if not put the plastic in the soil pipe and pour a concrete patch to fix the hole. Without seeing what you have there, it is hard to say for sure. But cast iron is not used much these days and a job to fix, cut, seal, repair, most are replaced. Hope this helps.

BUZZING NOISE FROM MY HEAT PUMP

Take a look at this YouTube page that explains with good videos what are some of the common problems with heat pump noise. The one that seems dominant is the defrost cycle a heat pump goes thru when it melts ice off the evaporative coils. In defrost cycle, The compressor runs but the cooling fan does not, so you will hear a loud buzzing sound and the unit sounds like it is stalled...because only the compressor is running to generate heat to melt coil ice. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=American+Standard+5000+Heat+Pump+makes+a+buzzing+noise Defrost cycle noise video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wudLk0WoIVo

What is the cost of the of having a person replace a capacitator on an Amercan Standard furnace

Most of that charge (the $200.00) was likely the service call itself. IF you don't have a maintenance agreement with these folks they charge an arm and a leg for service calls. The fan will be much more pricey than the capacitor, and you will certainly get another service call charge. You may want to ask about a maintenance agreement at that time. Some places will waive the service charge if you purchase one. Then you basically get the semi-annual servicing for the same price as you would have paid just to have the blower replaced (depending on the contract cost)..

Why does my American Standard heat pump compressor and condenser fan run when I have the thermostat set to emergency heat?

It's possible the "brain" thinks it can still supply some heat. Other wise there is a wiring problem or thermostat switch problem. Installed recently? Never used emergency heat before? What is your emergency heat type, gas or electric? Are you sure they are working. If not the "brain" senses and uses the only source available: heat pump. Thermostat? probably Honeywell? If so call Mfg customer service. Warranty on thermostat or heat pump? If so call customer service. Call your installer.
