SOURCE: software counterfeiting, did not pass genuine windows validation

This sort of issue takes place usually after windows updates
Therefore the best solution is to uninstall the recent updates on your computer and restart again.

SOURCE: you may be a victim of software counterfeiting.

Just click validate, enter the activation # and reactivate.
It does this if the activation file gets damaged,or if using pirated software.(if this is pirated software, you will need to get a genuine copy)

OK, This is a notice from Microsoft. The validation tool thinks your Version is a counterfeit. It is not a virus, but is still a headache no less. It will not go away, we can't shut it off. The only way to fix is to reload with a valid code or call Microsoft to report it. I hope this helps :)

Remove ask for genuine microsoft software? - Solve this!

Welcome to FixYa!

If you're seeing notifications that the copy of Windows that is installed on your PC might not be genuine, or that you might be a victim of counterfeit software, it's likely that your copy of Windows was not properly activated or is otherwise not genuine. To fix this, click the notification and follow the steps to either repair Windows or-if you have inadvertently obtained counterfeit software-buy genuine Windows.

If you are using Windows XP, download and install the Windows Genuine Advantage Notification Application. It will scan your operating system and will remove the annoying message if it's a legitimate copy of windows.

I can`t go in my mail,I want to remove you may be a victim of software counterfeiting

HI,

That message ("you may be a victim of software counterfeiting") is displayed when your Windows serial number is being used by someone else. If your copy of Windows is legitimate, try contacting Microsoft support.

Take care,

I am a victim of software counterfeiting

The only way you will ever get to get rid of that annoying counterfeit message is to install a genuine windows software, i.e. you need to purchase a unique windows software/CD for that pc. If you purchase the windows software, then during installation, in which you much boot from CD/DVD drive, you must select repair. That way all your documents will be preserved intact for you. The counterfeit message really simply is saying to you that, “look, this copy of the windows is actually owned by someone else and has been registered as such on Microsoft server.” Microsoft requires that each PC have a unique CD/software.

Ask for genuine microsoft software

Hi.

It appears you have been a victim of software counterfeit, just like message says. Windows cannot find your product number in its valid product keys database.

There are three possibilities:
  • you have purchased illegal Windows XP (you will have to contact Microsoft on resolving this issue),
  • you entered blacklisted product key by mistake (search on Microsoft's site on information how to change your serial number),
  • you intentionally installed pirated Windows XP (FixYa does not provide any feedback to pirates).

When i restart my lap then show message you may be a victim of software counterfeiting. this copy of windows did not pass genuine windows validation

Hello

It is the update kb905474 which came in as part of the latest updates.
It also installs the "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting" splash screen before/during start up of windows.
The removal of the hollow star is quite simple but there is no option of uninstalling the update(so far)
Read this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/905474/en-us

and you "can" delete(rename) this to get rid of the star:C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\wgat ray.exe

Hope this is of some help
