The unit does not require 'recharging' unless you've had a refrigerant leak - in which case you will need a qualified AC TECH to recharge it for you, after, he/she has found and repaired the leak.
But, as I said above, without a leak in the system you do not need to recharge it.

Have a dehumidifier, Delonghi DE500P. Unit operates but no water collecting in bucket.Level set to 35%. Can freon be added to recharge?

the short answer is yes , but id caution you on the need too first?

first check the basics:
bucket full lite not on (blinking)
filters clean ?
both fan and compressor inside running (sometimes the fan runs but the compressor does not?) listen carefull for them both?
if your unit needs recharged odds are it's not financial feasible to do so , first you have to fix cause of gas leaking out ? what ever that is ? then you need to add service ports and finally you need a gas charge , this would or could cost hundreds of dollars , a entire new unit is less 200 bucks unless you do all this work your self , but id tend to think if you had all the tools and knowledge to do that youd not of asked here in the first place

Kenmore dehumidifier 106

Are you sure that it takes 134a? That is the refrigerant that is in cans. Without knowing what the pressures are on the high and low side and the ambient air temp, it is hard to say what the issue is. I would check the compressor cut off and that is controlled by the thermostat. If it is not shuttting off the compressor, then the temp of the evaporator coil gets too cold.

Hi... my dehumidifier compressor will not turn on, the fan runs fine and the time 2 hr/4hr cycles work, but the compressor wont kick on, the filter is clean and the unit is no more than 2 yrs old. Any...

Sounds like the compressor is inoperative. Most, if not all new units have no means of recharging the freon if it leaks out. If the coils are not cooling, the compressor is not operating and the unit will not dehumidify.

At this time every year I turn on my Fedders A7DH45B2A Dehumidifier in my finished basement. I turned it on the other day and it will not extract water. I have a humidity meter in one bedroom it is 67%. I...

Bob, the unit may not need to be recharged. I may simply be a matter of the humidity extraction level on the unit is set to high. Try lowering the extraction level to 35% or if your dehumidifier doesn't have a LED screen, set to maximum. In addition, be sure that the unit has at least a minimum of 12" clear air space all around the unit.

As far as recharging is concerned, it's like recharging the air conditioner on your car. But, in this case, your mechanic can't or won't recharge the dehumidifier. So before any recharging is done, I would like you to do this in home test.

Move the dehumidifier to the bathroom. Turn the shower on hot enough to generate steam. Do non turn on the bathroom's exhaust fan and close any open window(s) in the bathroom, Turn the dehumidifier ON and set the extraction level at 35%. As you exit the bathroom, close the door. Wait at least 15 to 20 minutes before returning to the bathroom. Ten turn the shower OFF and allow the unit to run an additional 5 minutes. Then check the water collection bucket for water. If you find any, the unit is working as it should. In which case, the humidity extraction level was originally set to high. If there are no signs of water, then the unit needs to be recharged with refrigerant. At that time, if there is a leak, it will be detected. As far as the cost of servicing and recharging is concerned, depending on where you live, it could be up to $100.00 or less.

Hope this helped you troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

2 yr. old. worked great. Then started shuting down self changing setting to low. shortly after, shuts down after 3 min. no water collection, unit is hot. Took apart. Cleaned everything inside, and filter....

Robinson, it really sounds like the compressor is overheating. This may be caused by a low refrigerant gas in the compressor. Or the compressor's oil has leaked down. But, if you took the unit apart to clean it, I would think that you would have noticed an oily residue. If it is the compressor (other than needing to be recharged) it would cost almost as much to replace it, as it would be to buy a new unit.
At least with a new one, you'd have a one year warranty and more, if you purchase an extended warranty.

Hope this helped you.

Compressor seems to be overheating although top is cool. Continues to run but doesn't collect water. Fan is working. Can't locate model number.

If the compressor motor is overheating, it's usually a result of low refrigerant gas in the cooling coils. Recharging is an option, if you can find a shop that will do it.

It can be recharged but you would first have to locate and fix the leak and then refill. Then add a schraeder valve and refill at the port till suction line is cold to touch and starts to sweat. That's it!

if the compressor is running and the fan is running then the unit has a sealed system leak that will need to be repaired and recharged to function properly
