This exact same thing happened to me, the only way I got my laptop to work again was to reinstall the laptop's original operating system software. Follow the instructions on this website:

By doing this your macbook should work again, but all information on your harddrive will be erased including non-standard applications such as word ect...

Try the following procedure:

1. Make sure there are working batteries in the Toshiba remote control.
2. Turn on your television set, DVD player or other device that you want to control with the Toshiba remote.
3. Find the "Recall" or "Setup" button on the Toshiba remote control. After you find it, press and hold down that button until the lights on the remote control turn on and remain lit.
4. Point the Toshiba remote at the device you turned on in Step 2 and press the button on the remote for that device.
5. Begin pressing the "Power" button on the Toshiba remote. Continue doing this until you have turned the device off using the Toshiba remote. Once it shuts off, press "Enter" on the Toshiba remote. The remote will then be programmed.

Unplug everything, change the batteries in the remote, then plug everything back in.

There is an internal component that has failed on the remote. Replace the remote and your issue will be solved.

The audio port section and battery internal connector are both is same place.so may be there is a sort of connectivity happening.dry the laptop for few days and then use.hope the issue will resolved.

Not the solution but my remote for the same model just stopped as well

I had a similar problem, my speakers are only a month old, and the other day, all the buttons on the remote just stopped working except for the volume and power buttons.

I just pressed the reset button on the bottom of the speakers and it seems to of done the job, so maybe you could try that :)?

Try checking the ground wires. They become corroded or loose and crazy things begin to happen.
Battery to frame and body to frame.
Be sure they are clean and tight.

I have the same problem on my RCA UNIVERSAL remote too..any one could me ?
