It appears that the back-light, a Cold Cathode Fluorescent Tube about 3mm diameter, is not working.
There are two likely causes.
1. Tube has failed.
2. High Voltage supply circuit has failed.
I'm currently pulling my unit apart to determine the cause. I suspect the tube is the problem but I will post more when I have it apart
Does anyone know what the correct operating voltage of this Cold Cathode Fluorescent Tube is? Northstar could not provide me with a service manual.
The screws are 1/16" or similar Allan Screws (about 1.6mm internal between flats). They usually can be undone with a 1/16 Allan Key but some of the screws can't be unscrewed with this key.
I'm having difficulties uploading the photos at the moment but I will try and fix that.

Two screws still need to be removed that retain the screen to the curcuit board - allan key not working on these - looking for another tool.

Check ebay for a new/used cover, or an oem product that will perform the same task. If this doesn't help, check with the company itself, they might have one for sale.
