To set the time / date stamp you'll need your remote control and you'll need to hook it to a TV with AV inputs. Be sure to correctly select the AV input the camera is plugged into. This is the most overlooked step that causes a lot of users frustration.

it could be that your AV cords are not plugged into the right holes. if they are it could mean that the AV cord that is supposed to show video could be damaged. check your connections and if they are good then try replacing the AV cord.
