I have just purchased an ice cream freezer for my mixer. It is an older model and does not have a "stir speed" delineated. What is the equivalent of stir speed on the older models? -- 1 or 2?

On models with the "STIR" speed, the RPM (Rounds Per Minute) is 60.
Set your mixer speed to "1" or "2" and do the following:
Put your hand near the Agitator shaft and allow it to brush your finger slightly. Use your
watch or clock and start counting the number of times the shaft touches your finger in
60 seconds. In your case, the correct STIR speed is 60.

Kitchenaid Artisan KSM150 Stir problem - Stir speed is the same as setting 2, but all others (4, 6, 8, 10) work fine. Tried adjusting the control board but "stir" and "2" still spin...

You are not adjusting the screws correctly. All three screws (2 top left and right, and 1 bottom)
must all be adjusted. Here is how:

1. Loosen the lock nuts enough & Turn the 2 top screws clockwise until they cannot be turned
anymore. Leave the bottom screw alone for now.
2. Use a dab of white paint or paper whiteout to mark the positions of the Phillips screws.
3. Plug in your mixer and Set the speed selector to "Stir".
4. Turn each top screw One full turn couterclockwise (alternating between Left and Right)
Keep making one full turn at the time (for both left and right) until the motor starts running.
5. Put your hand near the Agitator shaft and allow it to brush your finger slightly. Use your
watch or clock and start counting the number of times the shaft touches your finger in
60 seconds. The correct count should be 60 RPM (Rounds Per Minute). If it is less
or more than 60, give each screw 1/4 turn counterclockwise or clockwise and start counting
again. Now tighten both lock nuts.
6. Set the speed selector to "6" and turn the bottom screw either clockwise or counterclockwise
to achieve a speed of 180 RPM.

For your reference, the planetary RPM's for the 5-qt. tilt-head Artisan Stand Mixer are as follows:

Stir speed - 60
Speed 2 - 95
Speed 4 - 135
Speed 6 - 180
Speed 8 - 225
Speed 10 - 280

Hello KELPIES52. I see you have two postings, with some minor differences. You say purchased an “ice-cream maker attachment” in the US and my first clarification question to you is, did you purchase the KA Ice Cream Maker, Model KICA0W, or some other brand that said it was compatible with KA mixers?
If you did buy a KA ice cream maker, then it should fit all KA models, including yours. If you purchased another brand of ice cream maker, then it may never be truly compatible, and there’s the rub.
First regardless of what brand of ice cream maker you purchased, you should have both your KA mixer’s Parts List manual and both the KA Ice Cream Mixers Parts List and Users Manuals in hand. If you're lacking them, you can download a PDF version from the KA website at: http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/page/home.
Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals & Guides> and enter the 6 character model number, in your case use 5KSM150, for you mixer and select the file 5KSM150PSEWH4.pdf (777.26 KB) listed under Parts List (1113) (you can actually choose any file sized 777.26 KB; they are all for the different color UK models) and then check to verify this matches your mixer model. This is a good file to have on hand if you ever decide to troubleshoot and fix your mixer by yourself.
After downloading your mixer’s Parts List manual, enter the KA Ice-Cream maker’s 6 character model number, KICA0W (that’s a zero and not an “O”). Download the Part List and the Use & Care Guide manuals (even if you don’t have a KA ice-cream maker) for your future reference.
If, perchance, you have the KA ice cream maker, turn to page 5 for instructions for mounting the drive assembly onto your tilt head mixer's agitator shaft. The KA ice cream maker’s drive is designed to fit over the spring and groove pin (stud) on the agitator shaft.

On the other hand, if your ice cream maker is not a KA model, you can still remove the collar, spring and groove pin if you’d like to give it a try. You will need a punch drive with a smaller diameter than the groove pin, a hammer, steady hands and plenty of patience. Tilt your mixer’s head up and rotate the planetary agitator shaft so that the flush end of the pin with the agitator shaft is facing you (the extended part of the pin is facing away from you). Align your punch drive on the end of the groove pin and give it a good whack; repeat until the pin starts to come out the other side of the agitator shaft. Continue tapping until the pin comes completely free. (Note the groves on the pin as you will need to orient the groove pin the same way when you reassemble the spring and collar on the agitator shaft when you’re finished making ice cream). Once the pin is removed the spring and collar will easily come off and then you can attempt to mount the ice cream maker drive on the agitator shaft. Caveat Emptor! Good luck, I hope this helps. I bought a ice cream maker from the US unfortuneatly the drive assembley isn't the right fit for my kitchenaid. Do you or can you help me find the right part? Kind regards Robyn Ricketts

Hi ROBYN, Happy New Year! First a couple of clarification questions: A) Was your ice-cream maker a Kitchenaid (KA) Ice Cream maker, too, and B) was your mixer purchased after 1990? If you purchased a KA Ice Cream maker and your mixer is less than 20 years old, according to KA, the Ice cream maker should fit all mixer produced after 1990.
If you have a different brand (not KA) of ice cream maker, then I’m afraid you just won’t just be able to replace the drive assembly, but you will also need the correct dasher (the scraper inside the freeze bowl), as such you probably would be better off purchasing a KA Ice Cream Maker, which would be compatible with your mixer. Of course if your mixer is over 20 years old, then even if you have a KA Ice Cream maker, it may not fit correctly anyway, which leaves you in a conundrum. Should you purchase a new KA mixer for your KA Ice Cream maker or do you purchase a new KA Ice Cream Maker to go with your current KA mixer produced after 1990?
You can download the KA Ice Cream Maker Use & Care Manual from the KA website at: http://www.kitchenaid.com/assets/pdfs/product/ZUSECARE/KICA0WH_Use%20and%20Care_EN.pdf
I wish I could offer you a better solution to use your new ice cream maker with your current mixer, but unfortunately I am unable to do so.
I hope this was helpful, even if it doesn’t provide you the answer you were looking for. Good Luck, Howard, Burke, VA. If this solution was helpful though, please rate it. hslincoln

KitchenAid 2671 onmly run Stir and Second at high speed

Hi. Goto kitchenaid.com and download the parts catalog for your mixer model, these drawings will assist you in the disassembly and reassembly of your mixer.

You'll need to replace the speed control in your mixer. This is a common problem. Be prepared to wait at least a month for your parts to arrive. Unplug your mixer before you open it up.

If you're still under warranty call kitchenaid!

If this solution has assisted you, please rate it. Good luck! ricardok45

Mixer not creaming butter and sugar...

make sure you are using the right attachment. usually for batters you want to use the flat beater. not the dough hook. the flat beater looks like a triangle with lines through the center. and make sure you are using the correct speed on the mixer. start out at stir and then go up to no more than half speed. these mixers take a little longer to incorperate batters but they do a very good job at it. if the batter is thin enough you can try using the wisk as well. but only if it is a thin batter.
