Hi, i have a wireless network set up at home using a belkin 54g router. At the moment i have two desktop pc's which i can connect to the internet with. However i have just bought a new laptop which is wireless enabled and am having trouble with connecting to the internet. It detects my wireless network and says its connected with excellent signal strength but when i open the internet it says "cannot display webpage as you are not connected to the internet". Can anyone help me out as i'm a bit of an idiot when it comes to things like this. the laptop is using windows vista if that helps. Many thanks
I had this problem exactly - go to the microsoft websit for errors and trouble shooting - had to do with anti virus scanning - It has something to do with files found in a system folder that should not be there - Microsoft s solution was to delete the files (yes this made me nervous too) so I copied everything to a folder then deleted the files - closed everything up -did a quick restart and rebooting of modem and router and opened up a new connection and no poblems
I bought a gateway laptop computer from the pawn shop and it does not connect to the internet.
When you put the mouse over the network icon in your taskbar, it will say access: Local & Internet or local only.
if Local & internet you have a connection to the internet, if local only then open internet explorer, tools, internet options, connections and check that there is no default connection, it should be never dial a conection thats ticked or greyed out.
