The dvd player plays well but the screen is dark so the picture is barely seen. Enough though I increase the color/brightness its still not showing the picture clearly...still dark.
Thanks for the comment, but that's not the problem..everything is in and on but the screen itself is dark..the screen is not lighting up how it should when watching a movie on it.Thanks for the comment, but that's not the problem..everything is in and on but the screen itself is dark..the screen is not lighting up how it should when watching a movie on it.

The LED backlight went out. This happened to mine. It's the light that makes the screen bright. If you take it to an electronic repair shop, they should do it for around $30 dollars or so. Good luck!
Your TV has internal problem @ video stage on the circuit
But you may try to apply resoldering on the circuit board near flyback and CRT circuit board.
If it uses the same technology as a laptop screen, there is 2 backlights behind the screen, they are like very thin fluorescent tubes (cold cathode) and there is a power supply that these use. It may have gone out like many PC's bad displays. I think it is due for replacement or an operation if you are skilled enough. Might just be an unseated ribbon cable which can be fixed by yourself.
I have seen this problem before this is caused by a failure of the backlight which provides illumination for the LCD screen. You may also want to check the inverter also since it fails often and interacts with the backlight.
