Digital dsc F707 problem

Hi The front cover on the camera (donut like shape that surrounds the lense, broke of as did the manual focus ring. Has anyone had this problem? Can they fix it? If I use super glue will the fumes damage the electronic circuits? ( as I was told by one store) Otherwise fixing it looks like it will mean getting a whole new lens. Martin

I had the exact same problem. The front ring fell off with the lens cap attached. Bummer!

I would not glue the two together. I fixed mine by removing the lens body side, and screwing the front ring back on as it should be.

I noticed that there are tiny screws that are pointing forward, towards the ring that had fallen off along with the lens cap. I carefully removing the side cover of the lens body (about 5 screws), unsrewing the (fake) hot-shoebracket, and the 2 screws underneath (where the lens body where the camera mounts to a tripod), then CAREFULLY removing the front end of the lens body assembly. There are ribbon cables attached to it, so slide them out carefully. you will then see the offending tiny screws either still in place, or rolling about in the piece. Match the ring up to the front aligning the sensors, then screw the two together. reassemble, and your back on track.

I would be willing post pictures of the procedure if someone needs to see how I managed.

I used Super Glue and my camer ia stil working.  However you need to be very careful taht no glue gets onto the lens itself as it cannot come off and will give your pictures a blurred effect

super glue reacts to certain things especially body oils, so the fumes from the super glue can attach to oils on your lens especially a fingerprint which would be difficult to remove after that happens. acetone would work to remove but it would also strip the paint off plastic and could melt certain types of plastic. clear plastic could become cloudy. So stay away from super glue unless you have no alternative.

The lens is stuck, it doesn't come out

Hi, This is a very common problem with digital cameras. The lense is a very complicated piece that has motors sensors focus motors that can see clearly at a distance or close or in between. So any rough handling or trying to open lense in a case or pocket by accidental getting its on button pushed is a death sentence for lenses on digital cameras, dirt sand etc getting in the conical tube setup is not good either, they CAN NOT be mishandled if you think that that bump the camera got wasn't that bad the lense will have the final say and odds are it will say NO. Final thought is it's broke so try wiggling the lense with you fingers, tapping gently on a hard surface if it don't fix it it is still broke and probably to expensive to repair.

I insert a memory stick and it says "No memory Stick" although it will take and record pictures . Does anyone know where i can purchase a 128 Memory stick for the DSC -F707?

You should purchase online from some secure seller.
Like here, its Sandisk Homepage.
search for the compatible Card from the bottom right tab.

Also Note that DSC -F707 doesn't support more than 128-Mb cards.

If helpful, Kindly DO RATE!
Best Regards.

My DSC-F707 won't record images.

Sounds like the CCD has developed a fault. I had a F717 which had similar faults but this turned out to be a batch of faulty CCD's which I know the F707 shared. This maybe why Sony are not keen to get involved as it will cost them money. JVC had a similar problem with some of it's Camcorders using a similar CCD and they replaced them FOC even those well out of warranty. Keep trying with Sony and mention the CCD and serial number of the F707 and see if it is one of the faulty batch.

DSC-F707 camera cuts off after 10 second , just bought a new battery.

I also bought an aftermarket battery for my F707 on Ebay and got the same "for info...." message.
I contacted the seller and they sent me a new one and it worked, don't see a way around it.

Sony A100 compatible lenses

Virtually all the old Minolta lenses are compatible with the new Sony SLRs.

For the two you mention, you will need to check whether the lenses are the AF or MF versions.

Both will fit, but AF is the auto-focus one, and MF is (obviously!) manual-focus.

If you want a definitive list with tech details on ALL the Minolta / Sony lenses, look here:
