I am having no suction in my hose for my dyson animal

  • sgt072007 Apr 21, 2009

I had the same problem, and just checked that "u-shaped" attachment at the bottom of the Dyson and sure enough--a pencil, Kleenex, and whole wad of other random things clogging that attachment. Removed it all and--presto--problem fixed!

Hi there, I have a Dyson DC50. The crevice tool is stuck on the hose end. When you press the red release button it doesn't release. Tx Mel

Had the same problem twice and washed the filter to no avail. Called Dyson to troubleshoot, and in one minute they had me removing the purple plastic noodle shaped piece towards the bottom on the side (the next time it was the silver noodle on the opposite side). Inside was a bent pen and tons of debris wrapped around it that slowed the suction. Poked the debris out, and it worked perfectly.

Following the advice of other posters, I unlocked and removed the gray plastic u-shaped "trap" at the bottom of the handle. As others have noted, there was a pen (red Sharpie to be exact), caught in there and that had led to additional blockage just like a sink trap.

Now I remove the u-shaped piece every other week or so just to make sure nothing is caught in there.

I had no hose suction at all. Followed advice above. Noting was in the hose, but discovered that the clear plastic "Switch" behind the collection tube, in front of the "U" shaped tube was not aligned. For floor, it is in one position, then when you remove the attachments, the switch moves the hose tube by the "U". I manually moved the clear switch and then the tube. Must have been stuck, works great again.

HI, it's Jim from Crucial Vacuum!

If you're experiencing a loss of suction in your Dyson DC07's hose try stretching the hose out entirely to release any clogs. A handy way to unclog hard to reach spots in your hose is to use a broom handle. Another thing to look for is any tears in the hose.

General maintenance of your vacuums filters will also help with keeping your Dysons suction.

After every use, make sure to empty your unit's dust cup. Allowing for fine dust and debris to rest in your unit's dust cup for a long period may cause your unit to become clogged. Even your hose.

It is recommended to wash and clean your unit's filter screen weekly. To do so, empty your filter screen outdoors to take off any excess debris and then clean under running water until the water comes out clean. Allow the filter screen to fully dry before inserting it back into the unit. This may take up to several hours. Be sure to allow it to FULLY dry.

You can purchase high quality replacement hoses for your Dyson DC07 direct from Crucial Vacuum with free shipping and an exclusive 10% coupon for Fixya.com readers, use code: FIXYA10

Loss of suction after vacuuming up and removing a piece of paper

Hi. The hollow noise and lack of suction suggests there is still air flow restriction. Start from the furthest point and work back towards the motor. Pull the hose off at the machine. Has high suction returned to normal? If not, open the canister and expose the filter bag. Remove the filter bag and check for a blockage or is the bag full? If the bag is not full and there is no blockage inside the inlet tube. Leave the hose and the filter bag removed, close up the canister vacuum and turn it on. Has high suction returned to normal? If not, there is probably a secondary filter or HEPA filter that needs to be replaced. I hope this helps. Please let me know what you found. Good Luck.

Dyson animal loss of suction only in base makes a popping sound and feel very warm

Hi Chris,

It's normal for your machine to become warm in use - like most Dyson vacuums, DC41 Animal will shut itself down for protection if it starts to overheat.

However, the popping sound and change in performance you've described suggest that something is blocking the machine. This is simple to resolve following our online troubleshooting checks: http://www.dyson.com/support/dc41/dc41-irspu/diagnosis-root-menu/performance-flo-area-check-dc41/flo-brushbarvid-dc41/redirect-to-performance-flo-base-dc41-checking-the-internal-hose/performance-flo-base-dc41-checking-the-internal-hose

It's also a good idea to give the filters a wash - in normal use this should be done at least once every three months, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 hours for the filters to dry completely before replacing them.

If you'd like further advice after you've given this a try, please give our experts a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Loss of suction

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.
I'm sorry to hear you've had difficulty with your DC44 Animal. It's normal for air to blow out of the back of the machine - this is where the exhaust air is returned to the room after passing through the cyclone pack.
However, if your machine doesn't seem to be picking up as well as usual and you've recently washed the filter, this may be due to a blockage. To check the motorised carbon fibre floor tool, wand and bin inlet for any obstructions, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:
http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc44/dc44-animal/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual-dc44/no-resolved-redirect-to-check-the-wand/check-wand
The motorised carbon fibre floor tool is driven by it's own motor, rather than the machine's airflow. If it isn't rotating, the video attached should help you locate anything which could be jamming the brush bar. Make sure you remove any threads or hair from around the brush bar carefully using scissors, taking care to avoid causing any damage to the bristles.
I'm confident this will resolve the issue, but if you would like some further help you can reach the Dyson customer Helpline directly by calling us on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).
Best wishes,

Dyson Animal handheld brush not turning

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

We would recommend checking it for a blockage and a removing any hair or fibres from the brush bar.

As the brush bar relies on the suction power of your machine, it would be worth cleaning the filter and checking for blockages as this may cause a loss of suction will in turn stop the brush bar in the Mini Turbine head turning.

If you are still experiencing difficulties, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards

A Dyson dc 17 Animal and the wand/hose has lost suction

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

From your description of the problem, it sounds as though the wand/hose is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose assembly from the machine, switch it on and test the suction from the top of the wand with your hand. If the suction is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction from the top of the hose. If its good here, then you know that the wand handle is blocked.

For the full diagnostics, check out the Support section on our website at www.dyson.com or call our Helpline on 1866MYDYSON.

No suction on wand of Dyson DC14 Animal

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

It sounds as though the wand handle is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose from the machine as if you were going to use it to vacuum the stairs. Switch the machine on and test the suction at the top of the wand handle with your hand. If the suction from the wand is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction again from the top of the hose. If the suction here is good, then you know the wand handle is blocked. If the suction is poor at the hose, you can remove the hose from the machine and clear any blockages here.

For the full blockage procedure please visit the support section on our website at www.dyson.com.

Hi there SmartAlec from NelsonVacuums.com.au here. If your only going to use it once you can remove the washable filter it is likely choking the suction off and is in need of replacement. If this improves the suction you can purchase a replacement dyson filter here. Hope this helps. Happy Vacuuming :)

Loss of suction on dyson animal hose

There may be an obstruction in the hose. Hold it up to the light then I use a long thin broom handle to push the clogged hair through it, being careful not to split the hose. This always does the trick for me.
