If it has a non-stick sole plate: 1. heat 1 tablespoon each of vinegar and salt to boiling and then let cool - you want the salt to dissolve. 2. Use a nylon scrubbie that won't scratch and remove deposits/scorch areas with the solution. 3. If your iron is non-stick, it is supposed to be self cleaning. Happy Ironing.

How do I clean my iron?

I am assuming that you have scale or lime build up on your iron. Make a solution of half white vinegar and half distilled water. Pour it in the water container on your iron. Turn your iron on its highest setting and set for steam. Wait about 15 minutes and turn off the iron. When water cools pour off the remaining water/vinegar solution. Fill the iron with distilled water and turn on. Let it heat and then cool then pour off that solution. Do this till the poured off water runs clear. If you have scale on the bottom of the iron you can clean that with an old toothbrush dipped into warm white vinegar. There may be easier ways to do this but this is eco friendly and it works the best of anything I have tried.

I was getting ready to iron a pair of pants that were polyesterrayon and 4% spandex. I thought I had my Rowenta iron turned down low enough but when I placed the iron on the pants they melted. Well...

First, UNPLUG THE IRON. DO THIS PART COLD. Clean the soleplate with scotch brite and WD-40. Next, you will have to remove the WD-40 residue from the soleplate with something like windex. Make sure you get around the steam holes.
Next-Plug it in and fill it with 50-50 mix of water and white vinegar. Set it for steam and let it run through. Refill it with plain water and steam it out again, until there is NO VINEGAR SMELL. This will clean the deposits out of the tank and steam vents.

Theres water pouring out of my t fal iron's little holes when I begin to iron my shirt...why!

The iron needs to be cleaned as I have just discovered myself. I have a hinari and the instructions are as follows. Fill the water tank and turn the iron on to medium. When heated press the steam button and hold it over the sink or a container so that the water can run out of it. It will take sediments with it. The cleaning of the iron should be carried out once a month.

I experienced the same trouble and carried out the instructions and all is well again.

My daughter purchased a Steam iron Make

Don a thermo fuse can generally be bought at an electronics parts store or Radio Shack type outlet in the hobby parts area. Like any other fuse they are rated specific to the requirement of the appliance, do NOT use a higher temp one.. If you have warranty, ( likely 1 year???), return the iron, If you replace it, it is generally an in line crimp. I would only attempt it once as the iron may be defective.
