F505 serial connection is dead.

I have tried to use the serial connection between my new DSC-F505 and my good old laptop (an IBM Thinkpad 760 without USB). In device manager, COM1 is reported as working properly. But when I connect the camera , accurately following the Sony manual instructions, all what happens is a total freeze. Not even Ctrl-alt-delete is working. I know that I should buy a PCMCIA memory card adapter, but it is very expensive in my country. I would rather buy a 32MB memory stick for that money.

Had the serial port working before? If not, try this, disable the infered port and click start choose IBM Thinkpad 760 open it and locate the com1 (serial) and enable it. It should work fine. Goodluck.

Thinkpad R50e restore fabric settings/partition erased

If you need to reset it, you can get a recovery disk from IBM Lenovo which will be much cheaper than getting a new copy of Windows. When you call up IBM, make sure you keep your serial no handy.

When I connected an external VGA monitor to my IBM thinkpad 760 C the external monitor works.. but the internal/original monitor goes black what to do?

It's supposed to do that. The internal VGA card doesn't have enough power to support both screens at higher resolutions than intended.

If you have not recorded this information in some sort of local inventory database you could look at the original purchase order. But otherwise without the laptop finding the Serial will be hard.

Most drivers now only comes on CD. Without a wcd-Rom, you would have to split the drivers files into multiple floppy drive then rejoin it on the laptop.
