I purchased a used Neptune frontloader (no round window). It didn't have a manual. I don't have a clue how to use the softener/bleach dispenser. It came setting in under the door for putting in detergent. I don't see any way it is supposed to release what's in it. Please send a pic and how it is supposed to work. I have read line can be clogged but I don't see any lines that could clog.

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

Manual first!
You will need to type into your search engine/web browser '(make model number) washer manual' and you should be presented with a number of sources from which you can either download for free or have to pay a nominal amount.
You could also try the manufacturer's web site direct.

Softener tray
(Sorry, no picture as different washers have different shaped trays!)
It works by siphoning the water+softener over the lip of the pipe/tube (not 'line', sorry) under its cover then out of the bottom of the pipe into the washer. In that way it stays in the tray until it is time for it on rinse. Please note that the pipe/tube has a cover so you cannot see the pipe easily! If I could ask you to read and action the following it should work OK ;-0)
-------------------------------------
Remove the complete drawer. To do this you will have to do one of the following-

  • Top catch- push down the lip/catch at the middle rear and pull the drawer out (that's how our Bosch one is removed)
  • release the catches underneath (our daughter's Indesit) or
  • lift upwards on the tray as it is coming out to clear the lip underneath.
Once out identify which tray is for the conditioner- the others are simply 'chutes' and open-ended.
It will normally have some sort of cover over it which you must remove to expose the little stuck up pipe/tube. On some models there is just a small individual cap over the tube but on others the cover is part of the tray's plastic top. The tube is down which the conditioner and water should siphon. It is likely to be blocked by 'gunge'- a mix of powder and conditioner. The whole of the tray, particularly this pipe and the bit which fits over it, must be completely clean and clear for it to operate correctly. It is worthwhile checking fairly regularly.

If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!
John C

Kenmore frontloader fabric softener dispenser is clogged

There should be pins located somewhere on the dispenser or a grey thing located inside the dispenser, push it down and that will release the dispenser from the washer. Afterwards you can put in in the dishwasher, this should clean out any clogging residue.

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

2 ways for me to answer this- both pre-typed!
Which tray

A quick and easy way to find out which tray is which is to pull the detergent drawer out just so that you can see into it. Start a pre-wash and see where the water runs in, then advance to the main wash and observe. Finally start a rinse cycle and where the water goes in is where the conditioner/softener goes.
In a few cases I have come across, the pre-wash tray shares with the conditioner/softener part but the pre-wash powder goes in the front and the softener in the back.

How do you remove the fabric softener insert?

See page 33 and 34 of the FAV6800A/FAV9800A Service Manual for Bleach/Softener Dispenser Removal.

The only place I know of to get the Service Manual is at a DIY appliance repair forum like this forum with the Sticky Neptune TL Washer FAV6800AWW

5th post down has a link to the FAV6800A/FAV9800A SM. Post in that forum if you need additional help and good luck.........D*ick

I have a frontload. The bleach is not dispensing. I have taken it apart and cleaned it but that did not seem to help. I do not use fabric softner so not sure if that side works

i have a maytag neptune 6500. we have tried both the bleach and the fabric softner. neither work. we've tried selecting every option on the machine, cleaning it, using hot water instead of warm; nothing is working.
i packed up the manual in the process of moving so i can't get to it right now. i'm surprised there's no solution yet online!
sorry this isn't a solution, but more problems.

My maytag neptune tl wont use the fab. softener. i put it in its compartment but it is full after the load is done. not sure what is wrong.

For the FAv6800A or FAV9800A:

If you have no water flow to the Softener dispenser here is a non technical troubleshooting would be to enter Service Mode (page 14 of the Service manual) by Pressing Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys (simultaneously) for three seconds or until the console beeps.

Now go to page 16 to Service Manual and enter Board Output Test by pressing the Delicates key. This will lock the lid. Now press the
Wrinkle Control Key Pad on the console. The Control Board will send 120VAC to the bleach dispenser water valve. Did you hear the Solenoid hum? If so and you have no water flow diverted to the Softener dispenser the solenoid valve may be stuck closed. If you did not hear the solenoid valve hum the solenoid field coil may be open.

Final technical troubleshooting as a technical owner of the machine would be to take my DVM and verify 120VAC from the Control Board to the Bleach dispenser valve.

See page 36 lower left hand corner is the Bleach/Softener dispenser valve.

Here is the Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.

The Part Number for the Dispenser Valve is 25001043 if you need to replace can order from appliancezone.com theyhave a price check search engine.

We have a Maytag front load washer Model MAH 4000 AWW

tHE PROBLEM IS YOU NEED TO CLEAN YOUR SOAP, SOFTENER AND BLEACH DISPENSER, REMOVE THE BLEACH AND SOFTENER DISPENSER TRAY, AND YOU WILL FIND THAT IF YOU HAVE BEEN USING LIQUID SOFTENER, THAT IT HAS GUMMED UP AND CLOG THAT AREA AND IS CAUSING SPILL OVER. WHEN THE WATER IS POURED INTO THE TRAYS TO DISPENSE THE BLEACH AND OR SOFTENER.

Detergent goes where?

MLG2000A - Maytag Neptune Super Stack SL-3
1 - Select Wash/Rinse Water Temperature
2 - Select Options (Max Extract, Extra Rinse, Signa)
3 - Select Cycle
4 - Load the Clothes Washer (add detergent on top of the load in the tub, and additives [fabric softener, bleach] in their dispensers).
5 - Start the washer.
This is according to the owner's manual I have. Has worked for 9 years for me.

Bleach and Fabric softener not dispencing

One thing that I did was to clean out the filters on the inlet hoses.  This increased the water pressure to the machine and improved the situation.  I am still having trouble with the bleach dispenser.
