There a several things that can cause the problem you have described.

1. The Dehumidifier Mode is operating at the same time as the AC or is operation on it's on.
In dehumidifier Mode heat is produced.

2. Air filter needs to be removed and cleaned.

3. A blockage or crimp in the exhaust hose.

4. The exhaust has a leak or has come loose from the unit.

5. The unit is sitting in direct sunlight or is adjacent to a heat producing appliance.

6. Compressor needs to be recharged with R134a refrigerant gas.

The 6 things listed above are where you need to start troubleshooting. 5 of which are easy to check and correct.

Hope this helps you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

Delonghi Pinguino Pac C 100 room air conditioner

Very likely the outside (condenser) coil is coated over with lint or leaves from the air flow of the fan blade. Generally, the obstruction cannot be seen, because it is inside the cabinet. Try this to clear the air blockage: Go inside the house and unplug the unit. Go outside and use a garden hose, with the nozzle set to a hard stream and the water supply on full.
With the nozzle held against the coil, direct the water stream straight through. Move the nozzle slowly across the entire surface of the coil several times to blow the trash off the coil to the inside of the cabinet. The unit should then continue to cool as designed.

My Delonghi K900 overheats after only an hour of use. It is so hot, I'm afraid it will start a fire. Also, it only cools the indoor air to match the temperature outside. I thought I was purchasing an air...

Hello, have you tried shortening the length of the exaust hose, portable air conditioners rapidly loose performance when the hose is long. The exaust hose needs to be as short as possible with the fewest possible bends. The overheating is usually caused by the unit struggling to push the heat away from it, this would also explain the less than satisfactory performance. Another thing worth checking is that the filter and the fins on both radiators are clean as dirt will decrease its ability to move heat. Hope this helps.

K 900, pinguino

I had the same problem with my Delonghi K900.  I have an extended warrantee for both my Delonghi air conditioners.  It was taken into the shop and discovered that the hose that allows the water to drip into the collecting tank was clogged with dirt and dust. I find it is a good idea to have them cleaned and checked once a year, especially if used often. For under a hundred dollars, I have a warrantee that will last until the year 2010.  Sears offers warrantees for any home appliance, even if it wasn't purchased there. Taking the air conditioner apart yourself can cancel any warrantee on them machine. Hope this helps. Trisha
