I have an AKAI 54" TV model #PTH5498. THe picture show a green glow in the shadows. The overall picture is hazey green. What could cause this to happen? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Your green gun in our tv is misagligned/out of focus. Your tv uses red, green and blue guns that layer in different shades and mix to create the different colors. Your green is a little off so the colors aren't mixing right which explains the green haze and the shadows. A tv repair man can fix this problem pretty easily and it isnt expenisve.

If you unplug the set and look with the back cover removed you will find 3 large black round lens inside---light source (red, green, blue) for your picture--clean them with a lens cloth or a paper towel with glass cleaner sprayed on the towel.
Yes is is your convergence IC's. One has gone bad, but consider replacing both of them because if one has gone bad then the other is not far behind. They are located on the middle board of your set. They are mounted on a large heatsink, the part # should be STK-392-040. Replace these and your set will work fine again.
This is a CRT (or picture tube) projection TV . and if the green CRT won't come on it doesn't mean the crt is bad. The red or ble CRT could be put in the place of the green one to confirm if the tube is bad . It is more likely that the voltages feeding the green crt (middle CRT) are bad or missing. In either case it takes a bit of troubleshooting and disassembly to confirm. A CRT costs between $200-$500.
Sounds like you have hardware failure in the convergence circuit. Some combination of the IC's, fuses, and/or resistors has failed. Repair cost is $250-$400 parts & labor
