Questions about automobiles, motorcycles, and household appliances get a lot of responses. After 1 day, most questions don't receive updates as well.

It is a volunteer supported, free, internet only service.

The more details a question contains, the more likely it is go get a "do it yourself" answer to fix a described problem.

You can also answer questions yourself that you know the answer that applies.

Yes it does, but the experts are just folks like you and me and if one happens to be online and knows the answer then it will get a response.

the quality of the question
the amount of detailed information in the question
when you place the question
where the question is placed
if any body ,expert or person with experience in that problem is on line at the time
could you have gotten the answer by simply picking up the phone and calling the supplier or college yourself

And sometimes you will not get an answer, why? experts work for free in the spare time they have, if an expert that knows the problem reads it then you may get an answer, if no expert is around then you will get. no answer. If were paid for our services by this website and we worked for them then it would be different.

Everyone who is an Expert on Fixya is unpaid and gives time voluntarily. If you ask a good detailed question and someone is available, they can be answered in 5 minutes to an hour.

It is rare that a questions takes 4.5 years to answer, but I just found this category existed.

It's free as long as you don't provide credit card information for premium expert assistance. Most answers can be gotten for free. It's out of gratitude and ability to pay that some questions get paid on with a successful answer. Also, you can offer a reward of any monetary amount allowed down to $2 I think, for the least expensive premium assistance that is paid for.

2. the question is mis-categorized - so the correct experts aren't viewing it...
3. the question requires an answer for something that cannot be explained online adequately...
4. specific training, tools, or equipment are required to avoid injury or death...
5. the Experts that are online simply don't have the resources to answer your question fully...
