A satellite radio is on different frequencies than normal boom box radios. Te stilleto antenna will not work with regualr fm/am boom box as the antenna is much too short..
If it is made for that antenna then likely the feedline is damaged from the antenna. The cardinal rule for coaxial cable is that teh RADIUS of any bend needs to be at least 10 times the diameter of the cable. Many people treat coax like plain old wiring and bend it too sharp causing the center conductor to cut through the inside insulation and short to the braid or shield. Also look for areas that might be damaged in the cable. Also Sirus requires a paid subscription... I assume you have paid for the service?
Your first post did not mention a subscription but I am wondering how you put your hand on the antenna while driving... The antennas need to be outside the vehicle and using the body of the vehicle as the ground plane... at least all the antennas I have seen on vehicles that work are mounted that way... You would get very little reception inside the vehicle as the vehicle is a shield. The radio signals can be changed by anything including your hand in and around or in the near field of the antenna. You must have a long arm to reach over your roof to the center to touch the antenna... The normal place for the antenna would be centered on the roof near the back of the roof... Please describe how you have this mounted. At the satellite frequencies the behavior of radio waves gets wild. If you can take a picture and post it of your installation it would help analyze the problem. If it is on an eighteen wheeler, you might have trouble if the trailer occludes the vieww to the satellite. I can envision all sorts of mountings that they might try to sell such as ones to clip to a window that are so far from optimum that they won't work in areas with ppor reception like in forests...
It is very hard to explain antenna theory of why this occurs. The stilleto depends on a ground plane. The ground plane metal of your roof creates a "virtual" lower half to the antenna forming a half wave dipole. Without the ground plane the antenna gain is significanly reduced and the directional pattern is significantly changed. Moving your hand around the anmtenna affects the pattern and you may find positions that improves the gain without the ground plane. You could take a piece of metal say about one square foot and mount the antenna on it to improve the situation.

TONY B.
DEAR FREDY2,MY ANTENNA IS MOUNT ON MY ROOF OF MY TOYOTA TACOMA,
I CAN REST MY HAND ON THE STILETTO MOUNT INSIDE BY MY CENTER CONSOLE,ITS THAT MY RECEPTION IS MUCH BETTER WHEN I TOUCH THE STILETTO,AND THEN IN CERTAIN AREAS IT WORKS PERFECT,BUT THEN WHEN I PULL THE STILETTO OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND PUT IT IN MY BOOM BOX IT WILL NOT RECEIVE ,AND ON THE STILETTO SCREEN IT SAYS ANTENNA NOT DETECTED. THANKS AGAIN. TONY B.
