Hi,

You can transfer the songs from the old iPod to the new iPod using the iTunes Software installed in the Computer. It is required to connect the old iPod to the Computer and sync the songs to the iTunes Software. Select the Sync iPod option from the File Menu. Once you sync the songs from the old iPod you can connect the new iPod and Sync again to transfer the songs from the iTunes.

Please feel free to get back to us for further assistance.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Is there any way to get music off of a first generation Ipod w/ the click wheel. I had the Ipod linked to my wife's Itunes, now we are getting divorced. I got a new Ipod touch and want to retrieve

Rob Pegoraro had a write-up on how to do this in the Washington Post a number of years ago: (click here)

Beware, if you never upgraded your songs to be DRM free and you don't know the username and password for the iTunes account, then these songs that you're recovering will be unplayable.

Copying a cd to the ipod

The songs from CD may be in .CDA format, which the IPod doesn't recognize. Use Windows Media Player to Rip the tracks/convert to WMA or Mp3 format, and then transfer them to the iPod. you can also use Windows Media Player to transfer the songs after you're done ripping them.
