My singer athena 2000 won't pull the bottom thread up to form a stitch. I know this is an OLD machine and I couldn't find the right selection from the list My Singer Athena 2000 sewing machine was working fine until today. Everything is working fine except it will not pick up the bobbin thread or wind a bobbin. I dusted the bobbin case, changed needles, bobbins and thread several times but to no avail. Please help!

As I stated, everything is working fine except it will not pick up the thread. The hook moves, the needle moves, no buzzing, etc. I am leaning toward the timing being off. If I turn the hand wheel manually, I can see that the needle seems to move out of the way just a tab bit too early. Any advice? Thank You

Yes, the hook timing is off. You need to either take it to a service repair center, or do the timing yourself. If you're mechanically inclined, go to youtube and look for a video by Nilsandkatrina about how to repair your sewing machine. He gives a very good example.

I think if you watch the hook as you turn the wheel you will see that it is not moving. If it's not moving it can't pick up the thread or sew or wind the bobbin. If you really like this machine you can take it to a technician who is going to tell you you have a broken gear.Always have them replaced in pairs. On this machine there are 2 gears( 1 Pair) on the left and 2 gears( 1 Pair) on the right. If the machine is making buzzing noises, replace the machine instead of the gears. Singer makes a nice machine which sells for around $300 which will do more than the one you have and it is easier to use. Look at Model 7467. I sell quite a few of these and they don't give me or my customers problems.

If everything is moving and the needle is moving a little early then the timing is off. It's time to consult a technician. You can try lowering the needle 1/16 inch or so to see if it will work temporarily
( to complete a job ) but it will still need to be adjusted.

Can any one help Singer Concerto 1 9410, wont stitch at all, not loose stitching, not knots, not loop, no nothing. Just frustrating holes in the fabric:

If it doesnt bring bottom thread to top then the hook is not catching the top thread. I assume your able to bring bottom thread to top?

Bring bottom thread to top, place sample fabric under pesser foot, lower foot, then hold both top and bottom threads in left hand and manually turn handwheel with right hand and see if will stitch.

Dropped stitch(s) implies the top thread is not being wrapped around the bobbin. The rotary hook must catch the top thread as the needle rises, pull additional thread into and around the bobbin and release the top thread. Then the takeup arm pulls the extra top thread from underneath the bobbin and sets the stitch to the selected tension.

If with no fabric it brings bottom thread to top then it's not likely a timing issue but rather an interference or tension problem. Test top thread tension... foot up is no tension, foot down is selected tension and should be noticeable by simply pulling on the top thread and note the difference between foot up vs foot down.

Bernina 707, the top thread is not collecting the bottom thread therefore not forming a stitch, any suggestions thank you

generally it is a needle thread tension problem so increase the tension right up
it could be a needle /hook timing issue if you had had broken needles lately

My singer (1962 Model) does not make a stitch just not sewing.

When this machines don't stitch right is usually the sequence of the thread, are you expert? Are you certain that the thread is ran through the steps correctly? Also the bottom coil has to be inserted right.

How do i thread the bobbin on a singer athena 1200 sewing machine

The Athena 1200 and 2000 are "Touch and Sew" slant needle machines. Singer has not made them for many years, but I always loved them, because the bobbin is wound in place--you don't take it out! You can still get a full assortment of presser feet for them; just make sure they're for slant needle machines.

You would be wise to visit the Singer Sewing Machine site and download your user's manual--it's free, and it will show you how to wind the bobbin. There are a series of pictures there as well. There are several steps you need to take, such as raising the presser foot, selecting the blind hem stitch, etc. Sounds complicated, but I owned an Athena 1200, and I can tell you that after the first or second try, you'll find it quite easy.

Incidentally, did you know that it's one of those rare machines that will do a TRUE 1/2" basting stitch! I kept it for years, just for that ability!

How do I thread a Singer Athena 2000?

The user's manual for the Singer Athena 2000 is a free download from the Singer Sewing Machine site. It will show you how to thread your machine properly. A heads-up, though--the presser foot MUST be UP when you thread ANY machine from ANY manufacturer, going back at least a century!

Singer 756u stitches not catching

So this is a serger? Might have been nice to know that. Make sure you have threaded your serger in the correct order. upper looper, lower looper, needles from right to left.

Make sure you do this with the presser foot lever in the UP position. Make sure all the threads are pulled fully into any tension guides.

Singer Athena 2000 won't zig zag

Did you switch the metal plate to one of the ones that won't allow left/right movement by any chance?
If the wrong plate it in -The machine somehow figures out that the plate won't allow the needle to move in the left/right directions and only does a straight stitch or funky other stitches.

CONSEW 206RB5 TOP THREAD NOT FORMING STITCHES AND BREAKING

you have your thread tension too tight that's why it is pulling the bottom stitch all the way through it looks good from the bottom but not good on top. Its pulled the stitch all the way through the material.
I had my own upholstery shop 18 yrs and tension gets you every time.Just loosen the top tension.

Singer 3116

Rewatch your dvd that came with your machine. If, you do not have that, read the manual. Sometimes you have the thread feeding the wrong way, make sure that it unwinds toward you. Also, check your needle, change if necessary. Make sure the flat side faces the rear of the machine and is inserted all the way up.
