Yes, the hook timing is off. You need to either take it to a service repair center, or do the timing yourself. If you're mechanically inclined, go to youtube and look for a video by Nilsandkatrina about how to repair your sewing machine. He gives a very good example.
I think if you watch the hook as you turn the wheel you will see that it is not moving. If it's not moving it can't pick up the thread or sew or wind the bobbin. If you really like this machine you can take it to a technician who is going to tell you you have a broken gear.Always have them replaced in pairs. On this machine there are 2 gears( 1 Pair) on the left and 2 gears( 1 Pair) on the right. If the machine is making buzzing noises, replace the machine instead of the gears. Singer makes a nice machine which sells for around $300 which will do more than the one you have and it is easier to use. Look at Model 7467. I sell quite a few of these and they don't give me or my customers problems.

As I stated, everything is working fine except it will not pick up the thread. The hook moves, the needle moves, no buzzing, etc. I am leaning toward the timing being off. If I turn the hand wheel manually, I can see that the needle seems to move out of the way just a tab bit too early. Any advice? Thank You
