Bosch PowerStar AE115 Tankless Water Heater... Logo

There is an open circuit on one of the heater elements. I'm a little disappointed for a product billed as "built to last". The entire CE05 unit on my AE115 must now be replaced after less than three years of use. The house has not even been occupied that entire time. I need to find out how to get the part soon, so the lady and the four youngf children living there can have hot water.

SOURCE: Bosch tankless GWH 1600 H NG won't always ignite

The manual says to hold a match near the pilot while the ignitor is trying. It says that if the unit lights the pilot orifice may be dirty or clogged. Then the manual says to check the voltage on the igniter. It should be 1.3 volts DC minimum if it is not means the electronic control box is defective.

Let me know the status ...Kevin

SOURCE: Electronic water heater burner often won't light tho pilot's on

it sounds like you pilot lite is to far away from the burner, make sure that the burner is sitting in it;s purch, look thru the site glass it can be moved by hitting or bumping into the out side of the gas tubes on the outside of water heater, if not, the burner assembly may have soot on it. you might also want to make sure the filters are not clogged on the shut offs that will give it less pressure then it needs to make the unit come on,, write me , [email protected]

SOURCE: Rheem 21V40S-2 does not heat water

all brands and models have a flow switch which protects the heat exchanger from overheating, a very common problem is calcium build up in the heat exchanger which reduces flow and causes the flow switch to shut off the burner. Can be fixed by descaling the heat exchanger. We have a kit available at heaterup.com its safe and easy to use.

Sounds like hard water. Service the water valve. Parts are available from your local Bosch Service Provider (Contact Bosch if you don't know who the service provider is).

SOURCE: I have a Powerstar Electric

Tankless heater are a little frustrating sometimes but this is generally an issue of waterflow I believe. The fluctuations are do probably to the amount of water and rate of water going through the heater. If you have a shut off valve on the cold side of the heater, shut it back about half way. This will slow the water going through the heater and allow the heater to heat it up more efficiently. Then go to the shower, turn the hot on all the way (no cold) and allow it to heat up. Once it has heated up, test it by hand for a good temperature that you like. If it is too hot, turn the cold on just a bit until it comes to the temp you like. If it is too cold turn the hot down just a little (still no cold) and it will warm up. Ideally you should be able to turn the hot on full blast and then just turn on a little cold to get the right temp. Once you learn how these work then it makes it easier. You really cant run the water like you do with conventional hot water systems and expect to get the same results. Also, wanted to give you another little tip. Every 6 mos to a year, you should flush you heater with vinegar for about 30-45 minutes using a small cheap submerible pump like for a water feature in a garde. Just put in a bucket of vinegar and and run a hose to the "in" side of the heater and another from the "out' side of the heater and then back into the bucket. This will circulate the vinegar inside the heater and clean all the deposits that will DOA your heater. Funny how the manufacturer wont tell you this but these deposits will ruin the connectiosn on the heating elements. You can make your heater last for a long time if you do this.

Testimonial: "Thanks, this info helped me to remember what Bosch Tech support sort of told me 2 yesrs ago. I'll try the vinegar as well. Thanks, again."

Why do I suddenly have no hot water in my electric Premier Plus water heater?

1st check the circuit breaker that supplies power to the water heater. If that is OK then check and see if you have power to the heating elements on the water heater. If not then check and see if the thermostat on the water heater has power to its connections and verify that it is calling for the water to be heated. Last if all these checks are OK then you must have a burnt out heating element. Some can be replaced but you will have to drain the water from the heater before replacing the elements.

How do i fix my stiebel eltron tankless electric water heater? It stop working..

Th easy fix would be installing a new heating element that has burned out. You don't say what size this tankless heater but if it stopped working entirely you might have just one heating element inside. You can test it by (1) turning off the circuit serving the heater, disconnecting one of the wires to the heating element, then taking an ohmmeter to see what the resistance of the element is. If it is "infinity" then it is open and burned out. Replace element. If it is around 6 ohms (for a 10kW heater running at 240V) then the heating element is OK. Unfortunately those heating elements don't last forever. Check the repair manual on how to replace the heating element.

Rheem 50 gallon Electric Water Heater 81V52D C repair ideas needed

It could be element shorted to ground through steel tank, so don't touch tank when breaker is ON.
Or you have undersized 12 gauge wire and 20 amp breaker and the heat has loosened breaker on the busbar. Breaker trips when heat exceeds breaker limit. Jiggle breaker and listen for crackling sound.

To restore hot water now:
Turn off circuit breaker, and open top cover then Push in reset button on top of heater to restore functionality. Put back insulation and factory cover.
To fix water heater: test and replace bad element.

Water heating not heating water

The Emmerson W152 is ordinary 1-year warranty 120Volt electric storage water heater, except with bronze tank. The bronze tank will not rust, and therefore tank does not have anode rod, and tank has 5 year warranty.
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Emmerson-point-of-use-water-heater.pdf
Actions to take:
1) Check circuit breaker.
2) Emmerson plugs into 120V outlet. See if outlet works for other 120Volt light or can opener.
3) Turn off power and do following:
4) Open cover on water heater, and press in reset button.
If reset will not reset, then replace thermostat with ordinary generic thermostat from hardware store.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-replace-thermostat-on-electric-water-heater.html
5) If reset button is not tripped, test element.
6) Emmerson has 1500 watt element, and correct ohm reading at 120 volts should be around 9.6ohms
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-test-water-heater-element.html
7) This element is 7" long, and is also generic, and should be available at hardware, or plumbing supply, or Google-search 'Emerson appliance water heater element.'

We have a Richmond 50 gal Rheem model 8MV50-2 that blew out the bottom element. We changed both elements and refilled the tank but the water heater won't heat. Do we need a new tank?

Electric water heater is fully repairable unless it is rusted out.
All 2-element tanks are 240Volts.

If you have NO hot water, then suspects are 240Volt circuit supplying only 120V, reset button is tripped out on upper thermostat, bad upper thermostat, bad upper element.
If elements were not completely covered with water when power was turned on, then elements will instantly burn out.
When filling water heater tanks, open bathtub spout. Wait for water to come out full stream. Then open TP valve on water heater for a moment to remove last of air. Then turn on electricity.

Hot water heater keeps tripping circuit breaker

There are two heater elements, one close to the bottom of the tank and one close to the top. One of them have shorted and you will need to replace it. They aren't hard to replace but you will need large wrenches to do it. Most home improvement stores stock the heater elements and are usually cheaper than appliance parts stores.

HOT WATER LAST NIGHT BUT LUKE WARM THIS EVENING? IS IT AN ELEMENT:

I assume you have electric water heater.
If tank has 2 elements, then it is 240V
If you have Rheem, then elements are 4500 watt.
Check label on side of tank for particulars.
Rheem: second two digits on serial number correspond to year of manufacture.

Ordinary tank type water heater is fully repairable by homeowner using generic parts from hardware or home center.

If you have some hot water, then that says several things:
-Upper element is working.
-Electricity from circuit breaker to upper thermostat is good.
-ECO reset button is not tripped.
-You do not have overheating event.
-Access doors and insulation are in place and thermostat not exposed to cool temperature.

That leaves following suspects:
1) Check if TP valve is stuck open and running all your hot water down a drain.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-replace-TP-valve.html

2) Upper or lower thermostat is bad.
Replace both thermostats for $28
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-replace-thermostat-on-electric-water-heater.html

3) Lower element is bad -and- maybe tank has built-up sediment
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-test-water-heater-element.html
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-replace-water-heater-element.html

4) Wire is loose inside tank. Open covers and inspect. Tighten screws very tight against copper wire.

5) Bad wire between upper and lower sections of tank.
Do complete 30 minute troubleshoot before replacing any parts.

POWER PROB: I have an 85 Gal. Marathon water heater and I'm having some power issues. I have 240 Volts coming into the water heater and on the "upper" element but I only have 120 Volts on the...

It sounds like upper or lower thermostat.
Thermostats turn off one leg (or one wire) in the 240Volt circuit, so each elements will test for 120V even when thermostat is off.
When thermostat turns ON, it closes circuit by adding the second leg to 240V circuit, and element turns ON.
