My cannon power shot a75 will not focus. All of the manufacturers symbols are perfectly clear but absolutely no focus when taking a picture.

There is definately a rattle as if small thin pieces of glass have been broken. Is this a pricey repair or something I can fix myself? Obviously the camera is very old and I don't want to put ton of money into it as I was never overly pleased with it to start with.

Thank you very much! You immediatley nailed it on the head. Your extra advise on fixing it was appreciated too.

Hello.

Try shaking you camera and listen for any sound and look through the lens. If you hear anything or see anything out of place, that means your lens is broken. It needs replacing.

It will be more practical to buy a new camera. Cameras now are much cheaper and are much better. The cost of replacing your lens might be the same as buying a new one.

2. Close the battery door.

3. Press and hold down the on/off button for 1 minute.

4. Release the on/off button, and reinsert the batteries and memory card.

Next reset the settings of the camera to the factory default.

Turn on auto focus and when you are taking a shot let Auto-Focus adjust the blurry image in the viewfinder beforeyou take a shot. If you do not know how to do it please let me know and I will give you detailed instructions.

I have a Canon Powershot SX100IS.It is the worst

If this is occurring in "Auto" as you say, then the particular camera that you have is defective. If a recent purchase, return it for exchange or refund. If that's not possible, call 1-800-OK-CANON for warranty repair. The SX100 IS actually is a VERY nice camera, and this is very uncommon for a Canon camera. Unfortunately, it sounds like you somehow got one that slipped through the cracks.

Out of focus pictures

Try allowing the camera to focus by pressing the shutter button halfway.  Wait for a beep then press the rest of the way to take the picture.  This should result in much sharper images.  If this helps please rate my solution.

Canon Power Shot S21s screen is black

Hey birdstrike,
According to the manufacturer there are two options. You can try pressing the display (DISP.) button, and if that doesn't work you are probably going to have to get it serviced by an authorized service center. There is a know problem with the CCD sensor on this camera and other model cameras that causes a malfunction when the camera is exposed to heat or humidity. Canon is covering this repair, and I have included a link below to the instructions on what to do.

Sincerely,

Canon Powershot A75

I move the control dial on top of the camera from AUTO to the running figure for action shots, but there is still some delay - you need to snap the photo just *before* the shot is perfect

Canon Powershot A75 blurred LCD display

It sounds like the focus element in your lens is not functioning properly. Does the lens retract completely when you turn off the camera? When you push the button does the camera attempt to focus the image? If you do not see any change in the image when you push the button, and do not hear any sound - then your focus motor is either jammed or malfunctioning. David Millier Advance Camera Repair
