My yamaha RXV 430 doesnot start with standby button or remote. It is completely dead. The servicing agent changed a small circuit board behindd the transformer. After that it worked for a few days. Now until recently it is dead again. The system is not responding to standby button or remote. What may be the problem? Please help.

The red LED at the bottom of the TV is powered by the 5 volt standby circuit, if you don't have the light you don't have a 5 volt standby and without that the set is totally dead, no power going anywhere. Chances are a new power board will fix your set.

Try holding the 'tone control' and 'info' buttons while you hit power. If it is locked in protect mode, this will release it.. If it turns right back off again, it needs servicing.

Check it without speaker connection. If the set does not go to protection mode, check all the speakers by connecting one by one at a time and switch the set ON; to find the faulty speaker. If the set goes to protection mode even no speaker connected, check and replace damaged components at its audio output section circuit. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. unplug for 10 minutes and try again. If not depress power button to get into set up mode and ck settings , if all else fails reset to factory defaults. P.S. "ck batteries in remote first"

Due to the nature of the board connections and design; you need to use the exact replacement made for your model. Yamaha made the original and any other clone (if available) may not function properly. You could end up wasting your money. Either get the Yamaha replacement, or look for a used model in eBay or the internet. Other than that, use the $477 as a down payment on a new system.

Has anything been spilt on it, if so take the batteries out, pop it apart and remove the rubber backside, and circuit board, wash them with a damp rag, (not detergent) and let dry, then reasemble.

Remove the small screw in the battery compartment then put the long edge of a kitchen knife in the groove & twist. The case will snap open at that point then work your way around until it parts. Clean the contacts inside with Isopropyl alcohol & that should solve your problem.

If the receiver is completely dead, the problem could be as simple as a blown fuse. If there is no visible fuse holder on the back panel, you'll need to remove the cover. There should be a circuit board near the rear of the chassis where the line cord attaches. You should see a small glass fuse held by clips on the circuit board. Visually inspect it for a break in the small wire inside. Alternately, check it with an ohm meter. If the fuse is blown, replace it with the same amperage fuse rated for 250 volts. (The amperage is engraved on one of the metal ends i.e 0.5A). Before replacing the fuse, do a visual inspection of the other components on the circuit board looking for any signs of burning or overheating The over voltage may have damaged other components, in which case you'll need to take it in for service or scrap it. Most Yamahas have a separate standby supply. If yours has this, chances are pretty good the damage is limited to this area. If the main supply is damaged, it may not be worth fixing.
