It could be stuck or jammed then or the parts that allow the door to open could be broken. There are video's on YouTube about how to a CD player or a DVD player that will not open up.
1 Open top door (display shows OPEN)
2 Press and hold SERVICE button until beep (display shows P5)
3 Press and hold CLEAR button until beep (approx 25 seconds)
4 Press and hold SERVICE button until beep
5 Close top door
Sometimes the little ball bearings that keep the cart trays separated come out causing tray jams. Make sure your tray retracts all the way into the player flush with the face plate, gently push it in while retracting for those occasional no-read situations. (Also for Denon that takes these same carts). Also note that the CDs go in the Upside Down position. Applicable to:

With the top off the unit, you can turn the tray gears manually for slow eject function. Unplug unit before touching anything inside, check internal fuses. Sometimes the little ball bearings that keep the cart trays separated come out causing tray jams and shorts. Make sure your tray retracts all the way into the player flush with the face plate when loading, gently push it in while retracting for those occasional no-read situations. You could try to spray some oil into the spindlemotor, sometimes(very rare) they tend to stick a bit and will not turn properly or keep the right speed.
