Recording to Memory Stick: If you are trying to record to a memory stick and the display shows "Protection" or "Write Protection", you must slide the Safety Tab on the back of the memory stick to the unlock position.

"Protection!" on screen when trying to record on tape

samsung is awful. i only used my camera a handful of times and then same problem with the protection mode. since its out of warranty i have to pay for the repair. they told me that it has never ever been a reported issue, so being that said i have to pay for repair on a faulty part. (I literally used this camera 10 times most since i bought it 4 years ago) they are horrid! not to mention how long it took me to get anywhere. they hung up on me 3 times, and I also kept getting disconnected! I will never own another samsung again!

I loss my memory stick of Handycam DCR-TRV40E

Do not panic, yes the Sony mem stick can record, but why dont you use the proper tapes for these cameras to do your movies on? they are readily available in all good camera shops, even Argos do them.
The mem sticks are available from your local Maplin shop okay.

HOW DO I DELETE RECORDS FROM JVC -D740EK VIDEO CAMERA?

Since the JVC GR-D740EK is a european miniDV camcorder with no embedded memory nor memory card slot, I would assume that your talking about erasing or recording over your miniDV tapes. You can simply do so by sliding the the erase protection tab on your miniDV tape towards "record" and you can begin to record you movies. Prerecorded tapes cannot be deleted and used as "new" or bare (having no recording on it).

You need to check the small switch on the tape and switch it the other way.

DV Cassettes vs Memory Stick

Well, I went to The Sony site and what I found out was that currently this camera is only ceritfied for a 512mb stick. It does say what the qualiy is the memory stick is E-mail mode with a resultion of 160x112 pixels. The TAPE mode is DV quality or 740X480 pixels. Try recording both ways and see what looks better when you play it back on you TV or PC then decide.
